Harvard University is being taught an expensive and valuable lesson with President Trump and his Joint Task Force to combat anti-Semitism freezing $2.2 billion in federal funding. The Ivy League university refused to comply with the task forces DEI and anti-Semitism requirements. While many talking heads are saying that Harvard has lost touch, I am afraid they blew up that bridge quite a ways ago and are smugly asserting their pride at blowing that bridge up.

When the Ivy League anti-Semitic protests began, instead of protecting the rights of all of her students, Harvard copped a condescending attitude. Now disgraced President Claudine Gay was arrogant, condescending and evasive.

None of the University Presidents acquitted themselves well in front of the Congressional Committee. Claudeine Gay resigned and Alan Garber was named as head and still is in that spot. When Harvard University made the decision to not cooperate with the Trump Administration, Alan Garbus wrote the lengthy academician-like answer:

With Trump scraping back the $2.2 billion, don’t worry about Harvard, they still have $5.7 billion in funding and that is not including there $50 billion %50 billion. You take money from the government or anyone else and they can come after you. It was written in the Post Millennial:

In response to those demands, Harvard said no. “The University will not surrender its independence or relinquish its constitutional rights,” school president Alan M. Garber said in an open letter published in the Harvard Crimson. Garber called the Trump administration’s demands “unprecedented,” saying that they were meant to “control the Harvard community.”

“The administration’s prescription,” Garber wrote, “goes beyond the power of the federal government. It violated Harvard’s First Amendment rights and exceeds the statutory limits of the government’s authority under Title VI. And it threatens our values as a private institution devoted to the pursuit, production, and dissemination of knowledge.

“No government—” Garber continued, “regardless of which party is in power—should dictate what private universities can teach, whom they can admit and hire, and which areas of study and inquiry they can pursue.”

Harvard loves the money they get for educating the children of Middle East potentates, among others. They are not being brave or strong or standing up for First Amendment rights. They just aren’t used to the pushback. Harvard and the other Ivies love the grift. Take government money and keep the grift up. They aren’t worried. Trump will be impeached or out of office in three years. The grift will come back when they get the next Democrat president is selected.

That’s been the way the system worked for the last 100 years. If a disrupter comes along, just ignore him/her, the establishment Republicans won’t do anything, as long as we give them a few crumbs and we’ll just wait it out for the next Democrat President.

These private universities get a ton of government money in the forms of grants and research projects. The academicians don’t want to get their hands or knees dirty begging for money. That’s beneath their status as academicians. According to Red State, Team Trump took note of this:

“Harvard’s statement today reinforces the troubling entitlement mindset that is endemic in our nation’s most prestigious universities and colleges – that federal investment does not come with the responsibility to uphold civil rights laws,” the task force said. “The disruption of learning that has plagued campuses in recent years is unacceptable. The harassment of Jewish students is intolerable.

“It is time for elite universities to take the problem seriously and commit to meaningful change if they wish to continue receiving taxpayer support,” the statement continued. “The Joint Task Force to combat anti-Semitism is announcing a freeze on $2.2 billion in multi-year grants and $60M in multi-year contract value to Harvard University.”

It’ll be interesting to see how all this plays out.
