It appears Rep. Thomas Massie has now even lost favor among Kentucky’s Republican Party.

A video that has gone viral on X shows the moment a GOP official in Kentucky snatched the microphone away from Rep. Thomas Massie as he addressed a crowd during a GOP-sponsored dinner.

The Courier Journal reported more on the bizarre incident:

U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie had a lively Friday night.

His time at the Oldham County Republican Party’s Lincoln Day Dinner on Feb. 6 had an abrupt end — a video that went viral in its immediate aftermath showed his speech to the audience was cut off after event emcee and state House Speaker David Osborne, R-Prospect, grabbed his microphone while he was speaking as the congressman went over his allotted time.

But Massie ended up spending the night in town. He left the dinner soon after his speech ended, “in solidarity” with supporters who exited the event because he’d been cut off. They ended up grabbing drinks at Ernesto’s Mexican Cuisine in La Grange, the congressman said.

“I said, ‘Well, if they’re going to walk out for me, I’ll walk out and meet with them,’” Massie told The Courier Journal in an interview the morning after the event.

Mediate reported the reason why Massie’s mic was cut:

Oldham County Republican Party Chair Blaine Anderson said Massie’s mic was taken only because he had gone over his allotted time limit.

In a text message to the paper, Anderson said Massie and his primary opponent Ed Gallrein were given “explicit instructions that they had five minutes to speak.”

After Massie was given an extra minute “as a courtesy,” Anderson said Osborne took away the mic.

“This had nothing to do with what was being said by the Congressman,” Anderson wrote. “It was about speaking time expiring.”
