Easter weekend began on Good Friday, with many politicians and faith leaders taking to social media to remember the Christian holiday.

Good Friday marks the day Jesus Christ died on the cross before rising from the dead three days later, a pivotal moment within the Easter holiday and Holy Week. On Friday morning, several officials within the Trump administration reflected on Good Friday, including Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who posted a video speaking with midshipmen about Easter during his visit to the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy.

“It’s wonderful to see young men of faith,” Duffy states in the video. “It’s inspiring. So, then you take it from here and you take it out into the world, and around the world. I guess you guys are going to go around the world and searching around.”

Duffy’s video also featured him looking at the painting Christ on the Water, which he noted had been moved from the basement to the academy’s hallway following a complaint from a “concerned citizen.” On X, he wrote that people should not be ashamed of their faith, and that there is no better time than Easter to bring Jesus “out of the basement” to inspire the nation’s marines.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio similarly recognized Good Friday, writing that he and his wife Jeanette remember Jesus’s “ultimate sacrifice in Calvary.”

Duffy and Rubio’s statements were commended by the Rev. Johnnie Moore, who attended the White House’s Easter dinner on Wednesday evening. The Rev. Franklin Graham, another pivotal leader within the Christian faith who attended the dinner, recognized Good Friday by previewing a clip of a performance of Thank You Jesus For the Blood, performed by musicians Charity Gayle and Michael W. Smith, which will be broadcast on Easter Sunday.

Multiple lawmakers have also posted statements recognizing Good Friday, with Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL), a 2026 Florida gubernatorial candidate, citing a prophecy in the Old Testament predicting Jesus’s sacrifice.

“‘By his wounds we are healed’ – Isaiah 53:5,” Donalds wrote on X. “Wishing blessed & peaceful Good Friday to all who celebrate.”

“Kelley and I wish you all a blessed Good Friday with your loved ones!” Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) wrote.

“While evil trembles, the faithful remember: Sunday is coming,” Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) wrote. “For all who celebrate, may we reflect on God’s great love on this Good Friday.”

TRUMP VOWS IT WILL ALWAYS BE ‘IN GOD WE TRUST’ AT WHITE HOUSE EASTER PRAYER SERVICE

Next week, the White House will conduct the annual Easter Egg Roll, which first lady Melania Trump detailed on Friday. She thanked the East Wing Staff for their work on this tradition and added that she anticipates “watching all of the smiles light up” during the annual event on Monday.

“May this Good Friday inspire hope and faith for all Americans and our friends around the world,” the first lady wrote.
