Good luck finding pulpits in fat-and-happy post-WWII America even UNDERSTANDING this last principle, let alone TEACHING it

Even if we think we’ve got those other facets of our life squared away, our habits are on track, we eat right, spend right, dig deep in the Word of God, there’s still ONE area where the American church consistently gets a failing grade.

It goes right back a lesson we SHOULD have learned from those passages in Deuteronomy that Jesus used to KO the Devil in a wilderness brawl on an empty stomach.

The real danger faced by the people of Israel wasn’t when they were in the wilderness, or at war with their neighbors. The REAL danger was when they settled into their inheritance and started putting down roots and having something they might lose.

That’s when the REAL test came for them… and where it comes for us.
