Ads! Ads! They’re everywhere! But do we have to be so corny about it?

The athletic department of the University of Florida revealed an on-field sponsorship they have with Geico, doing so in a social media post Thursday.

The gridiron at Steve Spurrier-Florida Field at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium will display the logo of the insurance company, with their commercial sponsorship appearing during the Gators‘ final two home games of the 2025 season. In 2024, the NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel approved corporate sponsor logos. These on-field advertisements may appear in three locations: one primary logo centered at the 50-yard line and two smaller logos.

“I believe the NCAA is going to allow us to put a sponsor logo on the field during the regular season,” stated Florida Athletic Director Scott Stricklin at the SEC’s spring meetings in May 2024, per The Gainesville Sun. “That’s an obvious revenue streak that has not been there in the past. The pro sports are putting patches on jerseys. That doesn’t seem like something that’s crazy for us to consider these days.”

Look, I get it, the world is run by money. If I had a university with a college football program, I’d be doing the same thing to rake in cash. But I don’t and I’m just a middle classer who gets screwed by the IRS and this economy just like everybody else, so I just choose to hate and be annoyed by this whole thing.

And with the Gators in particular, do we have to be so corny about it? It’s a reptile thing? Really?

We know you’re getting paid, jerkoffs. No need to flaunt it in our faces while being cheesy as the pizza I ordered for the noon games.
