The Justice Department opened an investigation into the NFL over potential anticompetitive practices and harm to consumers as the league licenses more games to streaming networks.

The investigation, which was first reported by The Wall Street Journal, comes as NFL fans and some lawmakers have raised concerns about the increasing cost to watch games as the league licenses more games to streaming platforms, such as Netflix, Prime Video, and Peacock. While The Journal stated that the exact nature of the investigation wasn’t immediately clear, CBS News cited sources who told the outlet that the investigation was related to the NFL’s leap into streaming.

One anonymous government official told CBS News that the probe is focused on “about affordability for consumers and creating an even playing field for providers.” The Daily Wire reached out to the Justice Department, seeking comment.

The NFL said on Thursday that its “media distribution model is the most fan and broadcaster-friendly in the entire sports and entertainment industry.”

“With over 87% of our games on free, broadcast television, including 100% of games in the markets of the competing teams, the NFL has for decades put our fans front and center in how we distribute our content,” the league office added. “The 2025 season was our most viewed since 1989 and reflects the strength of the NFL distribution model and its wide availability to all fans.”

The Sports Broadcasting Act of 1961 grants antitrust exemptions to sports leagues, allowing them to package league-wide TV deals that protect revenue sharing and prevent small market teams from being forced to strike major TV deals. With sports leagues such as the NFL and NBA agreeing to move many live broadcasts behind the paywalls of streaming services, some critics argue that the practice could be running afoul of the 1961 law.

“The modern distribution environment differs substantially from the conditions that precipitated this exemption,” said Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), who chairs the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Antitrust, Competition Policy and Consumer Rights. “Instead of a small number of free broadcast networks, the NFL now licenses games simultaneously to subscription streaming platforms, premium cable networks, and technology companies operating under different business models.”

Games remain free to watch on local stations in the markets of the teams playing, but the most ardent NFL fans watch multiple games a week of teams outside their local market. Many NFL fans have expressed frustration that the NFL’s agreements with multiple streaming platforms complicates viewing and makes it more expensive to watch the NFL.

During the 2025-2026 season, 20 games were available exclusively on streaming platforms, including two Christmas Day games that were streamed on Netflix. The league has signaled that even more games will move to streaming platforms in the near future, including playoff matchups. In a letter to the Justice Department last month, Senator Lee wrote, “To watch every NFL game during the past season, football fans spent almost $1,000 on cable and streaming subscriptions.”

The NFL’s streaming craze has shown no signs of slowing down, and the NFL is expected to push for more partnerships with digital platforms beginning in 2029, when the league has the ability to opt out of some of its current broadcast TV contracts.

When Donald Trump first ran for president, many of us on the Right reveled in the thrill of the brazen businessman swinging a chainsaw at the bureaucratic beast that had spent years grinding down conservatives, families, and young men.

In the years that followed, we often felt vindicated. The Left had lied for years. Institutions failed us. COVID “experts” betrayed the public, Russiagate was a horrific hoax, and 2020’s summer of riots confirmed that rules only applied to the non-woke. Distrust was earned.

But recently, young conservatives — especially men — have traded righteous anger at the Left for a toxic victimhood that mirrors everything we once fought against. They parrot conspiracies and insist that everything — America, young men, the world — is doomed and the cards are stacked against them, no matter what.

This isn’t anti-establishment courage. It’s the same grievance politics the Left perfected, now wearing a red hat. As Daily Wire editor emeritus Ben Shapiro warned during his recent appearance on the Hoover Institution’s “Uncommon Knowledge” podcast, this internal rot — conspiracy culture, corrosive cynicism, and a Marxist-style obsession with exploding “the system” instead of fixing our own lives — is how conservatism loses its soul.

Shapiro warns that the Right’s biggest threat isn’t the Left anymore. It’s us falling into the same victimhood trap.

“You don’t want to solve your problems,” he told host Peter Robinson, “because you say, they’re not my problems, they’re society’s problems and I can’t solve those problems unless society is exploded. It’s almost a Marxist vision of history.”

This turns the Right away from traditional American ideals of individual agency and toward emotional, anti-institutional rage. I see this with my friends: it’s hurting relationships, crushing success, and handicapping personal ambition.

Young men specifically are suffering, and the Left bears real blame. Male suicide rates remain four times higher than women’s. For men ages 15-24, rates jumped 26% between 2010 and 2023. Millions of young men are falling behind in education, struggling to launch careers, and checking out of relationships. The Left’s oppressor-oppressed matrix, its war on masculinity, its celebration of broken families, and its assault on merit have left a generation of boys, and more and more females, feeling like the villain in their own country. That pain is legitimate.

But wallowing in it, embracing black-and-white “they all lie” thinking, and letting resentment replace agency, is surrender.

Shapiro calls this “depixelation” — the collapse of nuance after three trust-shattering blows happened near-simultaneously: the media’s Russiagate lies, COVID’s contradictory mandates, and the Black Lives Matter double standard that let cities burn while the rest of us were locked down. Suddenly, everything became binary. No evidence needed; just rage. That’s dangerous.

Shapiro illustrates this perfectly using an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast. In it, Michael Shellenberger debunked Jeffrey Epstein blackmail claims against Trump. Rogan’s response? “Just because there’s no evidence doesn’t mean they won’t find it later.”

Ben Shapiro’s apt reply: “The moon is made of cheese? Well, have you been to the moon? Do you trust the people who went?”

Herein lies the danger. Once you are in that logical framework, accepting unfalsifiable logic — the same kind Karl Popper warned destroys real inquiry — you can be sold anything. Conspiracy theorizing without evidence isn’t just wrong; it’s a grift that turns people into marks for clicks, bile, and personalities over principles.

Ask yourself if these voices have strengthened the conservative movement or improved society. The answer is no. Instead, they’ve left a trail of anger, resentment, bitterness, and hopelessness. They raise questions but never offer answers. They push dark narratives instead of teaching what actually works. The end result is paralysis — a generation left stagnant and vulnerable.

This is the horseshoe theory in action: The far Left and the grievance Right meet in the same dead end of inertia and despair. It’s why so many young men I know are single and sluggish. Ambition is crushed. Relationships die. Society gets weaker. The evidence is all around us; dating apps are flooded with it.

The problem with today’s populace is that too many of us no longer know how to defend an idea. We follow personalities — blindly, willingly — because we like the way they speak and the anger they validate. But when asked why we believe what we believe, or the logic behind it, we fall silent. This is the trap of following people instead of ideas.

Shapiro’s solution — and what I’ve been echoing — is a return to true conservatism: personal responsibility, evidence-based thinking, and relentless problem-solving. We must return to our foundational principles and place reason over raw emotion. We need to read, learn, and embrace a coherent set of values rather than a rotating cast of influencers.

But none of that yearning for knowledge and truth can happen until we first reclaim autonomy over our own lives. As Shapiro puts it, “Individual responsibility is the lodestar of a successful society.”

He’s right. Yes, institutions have failed many people — especially young men. But the answer is not to burn everything down or retreat into conspiracy. The answer is to rebuild on principle, agency, and honest analysis. Pure anti-Left reactionism or personality cults will never save conservatism.

We won’t save conservatism by worshiping personalities or “owning the libs.” We can defend it by knowing why it’s right — by reading the Founders, studying evidence, and choosing reason over emotion.

Institutions failed us, yes. But the solution isn’t burning them down. It’s rebuilding.

President Donald Trump blasted his former allies Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones on Thursday, calling the podcasters “nut jobs and troublemakers” over their comments on Trump’s recent actions.

Trump published a nearly 500-word post on Truth Social blasting his former supporters for their attacks on the administration, which have gained the attention of legacy media outlets and leftists.

“I know why Tucker Carlson, Megyn Kelly, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones have all been fighting me for years, especially by the fact that they think it is wonderful for Iran, the Number One State Sponsor of Terror, to have a Nuclear Weapon — Because they have one thing in common, Low IQs. They’re stupid people, they know it, their families know it, and everyone else knows it, too!” Trump wrote.

All four of the commentators have become increasingly critical of the president over his decision to launch “Operation Epic Fury” and attack Iran. Earlier this week, Carlson urged U.S. military members to refuse Trump’s orders and claimed that Trump was considering using a weapon of mass destruction “on the population of Iran.” Kelly said on Wednesday that Trump was “bamboozled” by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and blasted the president as “too weak” and “too gullible” to push back on Netanyahu’s argument to attack Iran.

On Sunday, Owens called the Trump administration “satanic” and said, “satanic Zionists occupy the White House and Congress.” She also called for “Mad King Trump” to be removed from office. Jones has similarly called for Trump to be removed from office through the 25th Amendment.

“Look at their past, look at their record. They don’t have what it takes, and they never did!” Trump said of the four podcasters. “They’ve all been thrown off Television, lost their Shows, and aren’t even invited on TV because nobody cares about them, they’re NUT JOBS, TROUBLEMAKERS, and will say anything necessary for some ‘free’ and cheap publicity. Now they think they get some ‘clicks’ because they have Third Rate Podcasts, but nobody’s talking about them, and their views are the opposite of MAGA — Or I wouldn’t have won the Presidential Election in a LANDSLIDE.”

Trump added that Carlson has “never been the same” since he was fired from Fox News and suggested that he “see a good psychiatrist.” He also ripped Owens over her claims that French President Emmanuel Macron’s wife is a man, adding that he hopes Macron’s wife wins her lawsuit against Owens.

“Actually, to me, the First Lady of France is a far more beautiful woman than Candace, in fact, it’s not even close!” Trump added.

Trump then ripped Jones over his “horrendous” Sandy Hook conspiracy theory, which led to a court ordering Jones to pay $1.5 billion in damages to the families of the mass shooting victims.

“These so-called ‘pundits’ are LOSERS, and they always will be! Now Fake News CNN, The Failing New York Times, and all of the other Radical Left ‘News’ Organizations, are ‘hailing’ them, and giving them ‘positive’ press for the first time in their lives,” Trump continued. “They’re not ‘MAGA,’ they’re losers, just trying to latch on to MAGA.”

“As President, I could get them on my side anytime I want to, but when they call, I don’t return their calls because I’m too busy on World and Country Affairs and, after a few times, they go ‘nasty,’ just like Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown, but I no longer care about that stuff, I only care about doing right for our Country,” he added. “MAGA is about WINNING and STRENGTH in not allowing Iran to have Nuclear Weapons. MAGA is about MAKING AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and these people have no idea how to do that, BUT I DO, because THE UNITED STATES IS NOW THE “HOTTEST” COUNTRY ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD!”

On Tuesday, the never-ending Biden Press Secretary show on MS NOW, The Briefing with Jen Psaki, took up a supposedly disturbing journalistic trend in Baltimore. Some "MAGA billionaire" is forcing the liberal Democrat governor of Maryland -- Wes Moore -- to answer questions about his exaggerations of his life story. Psaki wasn't going to ask Moore about his lies. She was going to underline the right-wing bias problem:

PSAKI: I want to ask you about another reason you're in the news right now, which is your record in the military, and in office has come under remarkably close scrutiny by the Baltimore Sun. And on is face, it’s not a bad thing, obviously journalism is important, and certainly public figures should be scrutinized.

But what people should know about the larger context is that the paper is now owned by a Trump ally named David Smith, who is the executive chairman of the Sinclair Broadcast Group. We've talked about the Sinclair Broadcast Group a lot on this show. And according to new reporting from Semafor, the paper has brought on a team of investigators from Sinclair to comb through your record and in one message to your staff, they even threatened to present their findings to the Secretary of the Army's office. Now, I have been, I have dealt with a lot of investigative reporters in my time. I have never heard of anything like that before. But explain for our viewers what is happening here.

Jen Psaki and Gov. Wes Moore (D-Md.) lament that the Baltimore Sun used to be the "paper of record" (when it was a liberal paper) and now it's hopelessly "right wing" when it probes Moore's biographical lies.
AI titled this clip "Baltimore Sun Under Sinclair Influence: A… pic.twitter.com/ZRzcwwstfD
— Tim Graham (@TimJGraham) April 9, 2026
Psaki harrumphed briefly about "public figures should be scrutinized," but Democrats aren't going to be scrutinized on her show, or MS NOW in general. Moore was granted a platform to disparage the "right-wing" paper's efforts:

WES MOORE: Well, it's actually a very sad day because the Baltimore Sun used to be our paper of record. It's now become the paper of the right wing.

And I think we've seen how the readership has continued to decline, but it's happened because you've had a MAGA billionaire who is now currying favor for the president of the United States and utilizing what used to be a prized paper for our region, and now turning it into something that is not much more than right wing dribble.

You know, the I'm deeply proud of my military service. I'm deeply proud of the fact that I served with, with, with people who I respect. And frankly, no one in the Army questions. The United States Army doesn't question my integrity. The soldiers I serve with don't question my integrity.

It's plain that Moore claimed he received a Bronze Star he had not been awarded – The New York Times, not a right-wing paper, reported that in 2024. If reporting like that is “questioning his integrity,” some liberal “papers of record” did that. But Moore kept hammering his “right-wing” line, to shame voters out of taking this story line seriously.

MOORE: But we are seeing how the right wing, and these right wing billionaires like David Smith is then using his wealth to be able to manipulate local media and is doing it not just in Maryland, but this is a canary in the coal mine for things that are happening all over the country. And they're doing it to curry favor for Donald Trump. And so, so it's, it's unfortunate that this is where that this is where local news for the Baltimore Sun and for the Sinclair properties have happened. But I do think it's an important warning shot for the rest of the country as well.

Accountability journalism is a “warning shot" and a "canary in the coal mine."

The Economic Destruction Of Trump's War Goes Far Beyond High Gas Prices

Authored by Connor O'Keeffe via the Mises Institute,

For the past six weeks, as this US-Israeli war with Iran has played out, the economic impact of the conflict has gotten a lot of attention. And rightfully so.

As anyone who’s consumed any news about this war knows well by now, the Strait of Hormuz is a major energy chokepoint, the Iranian government did exactly what they said they were going to do if Trump and Netanyahu ordered this attack and started blocking ships tied in any way to the government’s attacking them from passing through the Strait, and the US, Israeli, or really any other government have not been able to do anything about it.

However, throughout all of this, most of the discourse about the economic impacts of the war has focused on the rising prices drivers are facing at the gas pump. That isn’t surprising, as gas prices are an early cost that impact consumers directly.

But the emphasis on pain at the pump threatens to badly understate the economic damage of this war. And it helps feed the false impression that, if this new attempt at a ceasefire holds and the war ends somewhat quickly, gas prices will fall back down as fast as they rose, and then all the global economic turmoil the world’s been worrying about will be avoided.

It won’t. A lot of economic pain has already been locked in by this war. But to really understand it, it’s necessary to keep a few important economic truths at the front of our minds.

First is the fact that the entire purpose of the economy is to produce goods and services that consumers value enough to pay for. All of the production happening anywhere in the economy is geared towards that end.

That’s relatively straightforward with the production of consumer goods. A commercial brewer, for example, chooses to produce specific beers because they think consumers will value those beers enough to pay more money than the brewer spent producing them, making it a profitable production.

But it’s also true for all the production that is not directly tied to a finished consumer good—which is, in fact, most of the production happening in the economy. Businesses produce capital goods like industrial stainless-steel mixing tanks, rubber tractor tires, plastic packaging, or the ingredients of fertilizer because there’s demand for those goods from other businesses that produce later-stage goods and, ultimately, consumer goods.

So, returning to the brewing example, all the production that results in that finished bottle of beer doesn’t begin with the brewer. It requires grain that is planted, grown, harvested, and transported to the brewery. It also requires fermenters, Brite tanks, mash tuns, and canning or bottling systems—all of which need to be produced with other capital goods like stainless steel, which itself requires other capital goods like iron ore.

Every consumer good can be viewed as the end of a long chain of production stretching all the way back to the cultivation of raw materials like iron or timber, or the creation of basic components like resins or plastics. Economists call those basic capital goods at the beginning of the chain higher order goods.

And what’s important to remember about higher order goods is that, first, almost all of them are used in many different lines of production. Iron ore is not exclusively used to help eventually produce beer, it’s used to make a lot of goods that are themselves used to make a lot of other goods. It’s what’s called a non-specific factor of production. Any change in the production of iron ore has widespread consequences across the economy.

And second, production takes time. That’s true for the production of any given good, but it’s especially true if we look across that entire chain of production. The higher order goods that are currently being produced won’t help bring about finished consumer products until months or even years down the road.

All of this is important to understand and keep in mind because the war with Iran is, so far, primarily impacting the production of higher order goods. And it goes far beyond oil.

About 8 percent of the world’s aluminum travels through the Strait. And aluminum is used across many sectors, including construction, manufacturing, and technology. Nearly a third of the world’s helium supply comes from Qatar, which is an important component in semiconductor production as well as MRI systems.

Polyethylene and other kinds of plastics and resins are also greatly affected. More than 40 percent of the world’s polyethylene is exported from the Middle East. And these are used in all stages of production in all sorts of industries—packaging, auto parts, medical equipment, consumer containers, industrial components, electronics, and much, much more.

And there are other often-neglected but extremely important hydrocarbon products being held up, such as petroleum naphtha, which is critical for refining gasoline and producing solvents for cleaning agents and paints. Natural gas condensate is another liquid hydrocarbon used in refining and to dilute other denser hydrocarbons to make them easier to transport. There’s also liquified petroleum gas, or LPG, which is mostly composed of propane and butane. These components are also important for refining as well as residential cooking and heating in many parts of the world. Much of the world’s supply of all these products is produced in the Middle East and exported through the Strait of Hormuz.

Another often-neglected yet critical higher-order good is sulfur. About half the world’s seaborne sulfur trade moves through the Strait. It’s important for refining petroleum and minerals like copper, nickel, and zinc, which are widely used in everything from electronics to medicine.

But the other major use of sulfur is as an ingredient in fertilizer. The sulfur supply shock—along with adjacent shocks in the supply of ammonia and urea, other key fertilizer components primarily exported through the Strait of Hormuz—has created a time bomb in global food markets.

Which brings us to another economic concept that is extremely important to understand if we want to fully comprehend the situation we’re now in. The problem is not merely a rise in prices but, specifically, the destruction of supply. The strikes on production facilities and the severing of supply lines mean there is now not enough supply of the components I laid out above available to meet current levels of demand. And because, again, these higher order goods are demanded for the production of lower order and consumer goods, that means, eventually, fewer consumer goods. The rising prices are a symptom of the fact that there is now less stuff available for everyone who wants it than there was before.

The fertilizer shortage provides a good example. The fact that producers cannot get their hands on the supply of ingredients like sulfuric acid, ammonia, and urea they need to meet demand means they are forced to produce less fertilizer than their customers need. Which, in turn, means those customers—industrial and family farmers—have less fertilizer to use during this year’s spring planting season. Which means they produce fewer crops. This leads to less animal feed for livestock and produce overall, resulting in an unavoidable drop in the food supply.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to live in developed countries above the poverty line will primarily experience the shortage as higher food prices. But for the millions of people who are already struggling to secure the food they need, this drop in supply may force them to go without.

That is not a choice forced on all of us by some greedy companies, it is an unavoidable consequence of the economic destruction brought about by this war.

And that same basic process is at play with all the other commodities and higher order goods I mentioned, as can be seen in the dramatic price increases. Aluminum prices have already surged by 10 percent. Import prices for helium have jumped 50 percent. Polyethylene prices are up 37 percent. Polypropylene is up 38 percent. And the price of petroleum naphtha has tripled since February.

Remember, these price increases are not the whole story. They are the symptom of supply shortages that will work their way through all relevant lines of production and result in fewer consumer goods down the road—all from production disruption that will be slow to start back up again, even when the war is fully over.

That means fewer containers available for goods like nail polish and, yes, beer. It means fewer medical supplies, like IV bags, syringes, and sterile packaging, all of which rely on petrochemical plastics. Also, delays in construction projects as it becomes harder to source asphalt, plastics, and aluminum inputs. And dangerous health issues going undetected because of limited MRI machine availability, and much more.

And that’s not to mention, of course, the oil and LNG shortages that people are already sufficiently focused on. These commodities power nearly all stages of all lines of production and help produce the diesel and jet fuel used to physically move everything in the economy to where it needs to be.

Unlike gas prices, these effects will take some time to develop—especially in the US, where our supply chain is momentarily protected from the initial impacts. And they won’t be as clearly tied to the war in the minds of most people. But the costs of all this economic destruction are real, they are substantial, and they are already locked in.
