FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—More than 6 in 10 voters believe President Donald Trump and Elon Musk‘s Department of Government Efficiency will significantly reduce federal government spending over the next year.
The new polling from the Napolitan News Service, conducted by Scott Rasmussen at RMG Research, adds fresh evidence of DOGE‘s popularity despite unrelenting attacks from Democrats and the legacy media.
The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted Feb. 20-21, and found 62% are confident that DOGE will find savings in the federal government. Even among Democrats, 45% say Trump and DOGE are likely to significantly reduce spending, while 42% say it’s unlikely.
Just 39% of voters say Musk has gone too far with DOGE’s cuts, compared to 47% who disagree.
Trump on Saturday encouraged Musk to “get more aggressive” in a Truth Social post. “Remember,” the president added, “we have a country to save, but ultimately, to make greater than ever before.”
Later that day, Musk sent an email to all federal employees, “What did you do last week?” that asked them to list five things they accomplished.
The widespread coverage of DOGE appears to be resonating with Americans. The Napolitan News Service poll found voters are paying more attention to news about DOGE (36%) than the wars in Europe (24%) and the Middle East (23%).
The poll also asked about Trump’s idea of a “DOGE dividend,” finding that 59% support the concept of returning 20% of savings directly to the American people and using the other 80% to reduce the federal budget deficit.
The DOGE numbers are consistent with a Harvard CAPS/Harris poll released Monday, which found 60% of voters think Musk’s team will help the federal government make major cuts to its expenditures. That poll also showed 67% of voters believe the current $36.5 trillion national debt is unsustainable.
Among the poll’s other findings:
- 83% of voters favor reducing government expenditures over increasing taxes
- 77% say a full examination of all government expenditures is necessary
- 70% of voters say government expenditures are filled with waste, fraud, and inefficiency
- 69% support Musk’s goal of cutting $1 trillion of government expenditures
- 58% of voters say DOGE employees should not have access to sensitive information on Americans who benefit from government expenditure programs
Harvard CAPS/Harris poll survey was conducted Feb. 19-20 among 2,443 registered voters.
