Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-CA) is catching significant heat for an anti-Trump video posted on social media that many are calling “cringe.” Swalwell is most well-known for having a sexual relationship with a woman named Fang Fang, who was identified as a spy for the Chinese Communist Party.
The now-infamous clip features Swalwell devouring a taco in an attempt to cleverly insult President Donald Trump. The joke plays off of the Democrats’ new “TACO” acronym, short for “Trump Always Chickens Out,” a reference to the president’s alleged “backing down” when it comes to tariffs.
According to a report from Raw Story, the acronym is allegedly used by bankers on Wall Street who have started to make bets against Trump after picking up on so-called “market manipulation” that comes from him imposing tariffs, then backing off on them.
Outkick’s Tomi Lahren highlighted the video with choice words. “This is so freaking cringeworthy I have secondhand embarrassment just having to watch it,” she quipped in a post attached to the clip.

The video clip begins with one of Swalwell’s staffers — the cameraman — entering the congressman’s office, approaching the desk, and asking, “Hey, Congressman…What the f— is up with Trump always chickening out on tariffs?”
Rather than answering the question, Swalwell eats the taco.
Several conservative-leaning outlets, like RedWavePress, referred to the post as “bizarre,” while Blaze Media referred to it as “very odd.”
Conservative news aggregator @amuse wrote in a post, “MEN? Eric Swalwell is kicking off the Democrat’s $20 million effort to attract young men to the party. What do you say guys? Want to share a taco with Eric?”
Graham Allen, a podcast host, said, “Democrats are so DESPERATE TO ATTRACT YOUNG PEOPLE that they got Eric Swalwell to eat Taco Bell… SO WEIRD!”
“Eric Swalwell shared a video using profanity while eating a taco. Is this the type of messaging likely to regain support for the Democratic Party?” influencer Ian Miles Cheong stated in his response to the video.
“Eric Swalwell has posted a video featuring the f-word while eating a taco. Do you think this is the kind of messaging that will win back support for the Democrat party?” Town Hall wrote, echoing Cheong’s sentiment.
Critics of the video believe the video is a poor attempt at relevance. The Democrats have been struggling to reach demographics the party once had locked down, such as young people and Hispanic Americans. Polls and the 2024 election have indicated these demographics are now shifting to Trump and the Republican Party.
