Elon Musk donated $10 million to boost Nate Morris as he seeks to replace Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) in the 2026 midterm elections.

The Republican businessman hopes the donation will provide a lift in the competitive primary to succeed the retiring former Senate majority leader.

Newsweek has more:

The Tesla CEO’s donation may be a financial boost to Morris’ campaign as he faces well-known Republican primary opponents, including former Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Kentucky Representative Andy Barr.

Whoever prevails during that primary will be viewed as the favorite to win the general election, as Kentucky remains a solidly conservative state that gave President Donald Trump more than 64 percent of its vote in the 2024 presidential race.

Musk has become a major Republican donor, and his $10 million pledge to Morris, first reported by Axios, suggests that the billionaire may continue donating to candidates despite his falling out with Trump last year. Musk had floated the idea of starting a third party, but has remained supportive of Republicans.

According to Axios, Musk’s $10 million donation is the “biggest single contribution he’s ever given a Senate candidate.”

Axios also reported that the Tesla CEO has given contributions to pro-GOP super PACs supporting House and Senate candidates.

Axios noted:

During a recent conversation with Morris, 45, Musk came away impressed with Morris’ business background and anti-establishment message.

Musk also liked that Morris, a ninth-generation Kentuckian, is presenting himself as anti-McConnell, according to a person familiar with the conversation.

Musk is close to Vance, who counts Morris as a personal friend.

Morris, an entrepreneur and tech executive, launched his campaign during an appearance last year on Donald Trump Jr.’s podcast, and is running as an anti-immigration hardliner.

Morris was endorsed by conservative activist Charlie Kirk before his death last year. Morris also has the support of Sens. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) and Jim Banks (R-Ind.) and MAGA podcaster Steve Bannon.

“The weak RINO Political Establishment was in meltdown mode over the late @charliekirk11
endorsing me at my campaign launch over the Summer. They’re in meltdown mode today after @elonmusk supported us. And they’re REALLY going to be melting down when we win this race on May 19th,” Morris said.

President Trump has yet to make an endorsement in the Kentucky GOP primary, which will surely have a significant impact at the polls.
