Elon Musk ran a poll on X asking his followers if they think it’s time for a new political party.

“Is it time to create a new political party in America that actually represents the 80% in the middle?” the poll asked.

The poll had almost 1.4 million votes at the time of writing, with about 82% voting yes and 18% voting no.

From The Hill:

The post came hours after Trump expressed “disappointment” with Musk over the billionaire’s criticism of the “big, beautiful bill” the president is trying to push through Congress.

Musk has argued the bill is too large and contains too much wasteful spending, what he called “pork” in an earlier post on X.

After Trump pushed back on Musk’s opposition to the bill on Thursday, the billionaire wrote on X that the president would have lost last fall’s presidential election without him and called him “ungrateful.”

Musk, the richest person on earth, donated millions to Trump’s 2024 campaign, promoted his ideas on X and spoke for him at rallies around the country.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk said.

“Such ingratitude,” he added.

“False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!” Musk said.

“Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill,” Musk said in another post.

“In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way,” he added.

“Keep the EV/solar incentives cuts in the bill, also cut all the crazy spending increases in the Big Ugly Bill so that America doesn’t go bankrupt!” Musk stated in another post.

According to investigative journalist Laura Loomer, lawmakers are questioning if they should side with President Trump or Elon Musk.

“It’s heating up. Will be interesting to see what Republican lawmakers do now. I know law makers who are asking if they should side with President Trump or Elon. I’ve been on the hill all day and it’s all anyone is talking about. The most powerful man in the world vs the richest man in the world,” Loomer wrote.

“Oh and some food for thought as they ponder this question: Trump has 3.5 years left as President, but I will be around for 40+ years,” Musk replied.

Musk continued bashing the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill,’ saying Congress members had no time to thoroughly read its contents.

“Not even those in Congress who had to vote on the Big Ugly Spending Bill had time to read it!” Musk wrote.

“Congress is spending America into bankruptcy!” he added.

Per Axios:

Trump told reporters in the Oval Office on Thursday that he was “disappointed in Elon” for coming out against his “Big Beautiful Bill.” Trump speculated it was because the bill slashes electric vehicle credits and because Musk already misses access to the Oval Office.

Trump said he’d had a good relationship with Elon but made clear he didn’t feel like he needed him, either during the election or now.

He posted a string of tweets opposing the bill, then went for Trump personally for the first time since allying with him last year.
