After a resounding loss in November, many in the Democratic Party have spent months pointing their fingers at each other in hopes of determining where their far-left political strategy went off the rails.
For one newly minted leader of the Democratic National Committee, Vice Chair David Hogg, the desire to purge certain members from the party was enough to green-light a $20 million organization aimed at accomplishing the goal.
The Hill reported on the latest evidence of partisan infighting:
“We’re not only focused on targeting Democratic incumbents when necessary,” Hogg told The Hill in a Wednesday interview. “We are here to elect young people who are running in open seats. We’re here to elect young people that are running open, competitive seats as well, and support them when they align with our values.”
Hogg noted that his group is not blindly seeking to elect young Democrats, but rather seeking to elect young Democrats “who are ready to meet the moment.”
“Earlier somebody said to me, ‘Oh, you’re here to replace the old with new.’ I would say we’re here to replace the ineffective with the new and effective,” he said.
Leaders We Deserve endorses candidates for state House seats who are 30 years old and younger, and candidates who are 35 years old and younger for federal races. The group spent $12 million in the 2024 general election cycle.
His initiative resonated with some like-minded leftists, but it also delighted more than a few conservatives:
As a Conservative, he is the guy we all want leading the Dems

Now they’re fighting amongst themselves, great party to be attached to.

Of course, Hogg himself was a controversial choice for the DNC position due to his track record of incendiary and/or inexplicable remarks:
I’m very happy David Hogg is now Vice President of the DNC. He will do a wonderful job. My favorite Hogg Memory is the time he praised Abraham Lincoln and quickly backtracked when his loony followers attacked him. He was attending Harvard® at the time

Politico also reported on the “circular firing squad” Hogg has essentially created:
His announcement Tuesday, pledging to spend $20 million on its efforts, triggered a wave of criticism and concern from some Democrats, including members of Congress, DNC members and Democratic strategists, many of whom expressed frustration over Hogg’s dual roles as an activist and party representative. Some took to social media to vent while others, including House members, called Hogg directly on Wednesday, trying to get clarity on his position.
The unprecedented move by a DNC official to spend money against Democrats is exacerbating intra-party tensions that have wracked the party in the second Donald Trump era.
“We, as the DNC, need to be seen as a body that can be trusted, that’s not putting its thumb on the scales,” said a DNC member, granted anonymity to speak candidly. “We have to be so strategic and careful with our resources right now. … So why are we in this circular firing squad against Democrats?”
A Democratic House member, also granted anonymity to speak candidly, said that “having someone who serves in an official capacity leading the effort is challenging when at this moment we need to be bringing the party together,” adding that Hogg was “skipping the step” of private conversations Democratic leaders hold about lawmakers’ futures.
Here’s some additional commentary on Hogg’s initiative:
