A Democratic National Committee official has blasted speculation that Vice President Kamala Harris will run for president again or to be the next governor of California.

Lidy Li, the DNC’s Mid-Atlantic Regional chairwoman and a 2024 campaign surrogate for Harris, has been harshly critical of Democrats since they lost the presidency and Senate in the 2024 election, calling Harris’s campaign a “billion-dollar disaster.”

Harris has reportedly told her allies she wants to keep her options open, including running for president again in 2028 or for governor of California in 2026 after Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) departs after his two terms. Li believes such plans are “delusions” of the vice president due to Democrats’ resounding November defeat.

“Nov. 5 was a decisive defeat for the Democratic Party,” Li said on Fox News’s America’s Newsroom. “She lost every single swing state. It wasn’t a squeaker like it was in 2016; this was a resounding defeat. Right now, Kamala Harris is indulging in delusions of running for governor of California in 2026 or even president again in 2028.”

Harris lost to President-elect Donald Trump in the 2024 presidential election by a 312-226 electoral vote margin and lost by more than 2 million votes in the popular vote. Li, like many of her other fellow Democrats, reflected upon what led to the drastic defeat.

“America has said, we do not want to be coconut-pilled; we do not want failed border policies. And I feel like I’m liberated, and I can finally tell the truth that the Democrats completely failed on the border,” she added. “You shouldn’t be called bigoted or racist because you want strong borders for the United States.”

Harris attempted to moderate her immigration stance on the campaign trail, but it wasn’t enough for her to win over voters sold on Trump’s resolute rhetoric on the topic.

Li also called the Democratic Party a “cult” because she “dared to tell the truth” recently when she said there was a “stench of loser” hanging over the party. “Because in a cult, you can’t tell the truth, you can’t ask any questions, but I’m done with that.”

Harris hasn’t announced any firm political plans. Her term as vice president will end as Trump takes office in late January.
