Anytime there is an event with Donald Trump and Kid Rock, it’s fun. Every rock n’ roll patriot agrees.
So it’s no surprise that at an Oval Office event where Trump signed an executive order to combat ticket scalping, Kid Rock came out looking like a modern-day Fender Rhodes.
Are there more important issues facing Americans than concert tickets? Sure, I guess. Liberation Day is tomorrow, and Trump said he might borrow Rock’s jumper for a speech about his big, beautiful tariffs.
The quote of the afternoon went to Fox News’s Peter Doocy, who is developing a great rapport with Trump, quite the opposite from when The People Who Controlled Joe Biden were president. Ironically enough, every other reporter has a different rapport with Trump than they did with the previous administration.
Trump asked Doocy if Biden had ever done anything like this.
“No. He was never standing next to somebody who looked like they were about to be shot out of a cannon.”
The more important issue is event pricing. I’m not sure what happened during the pandemic. In 2019, i was able to get Luke Combs tickets at The Garden for $50 bucks. Then Ticketmaster did something where either scalpers can buy tickets and then put them right back on sale for a premium price, or the promoters are able to arbitrarily assign different pricing to different individual seats.
The order directs the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to work with Attorney General Pam Bondi to ensure competition laws are enforced in the concert and entertainment industry. It aims to uphold price transparency throughout all stages of the ticket-buying process for consumers.
“I’ve spoken to him over the years about it and it bothers him,” Trump said about Kid Rock during the executive order’s signing. “It bothers a lot of other artists. They go out with a $100 ticket, and it sells for $2,000 the following night.”
Will doing something about this fix the trade deficit or bring peace to Ukraine? No. It might make things less anxious when I try to buy tickets for the Brand New reunion this week. For that alone, I can think of no more critical issue for the President of the United States to direct his cabinet to address.
