Once upon a time, Congress managed to work well enough together to make sure budgets were passed and the government didn’t have to shut down. Even when Congress failed to pass a budget on time, it didn’t shut down agencies. Why? Because it was assumed the two sides of the political equation could come to an agreement in fairly short order. That changed in 1980 and since then we’ve seen a number of shut-downs, all because politicians couldn’t or wouldn’t negotiate in good faith. So pardon me if I refuse to fall into line with the Democrats and certain Republicans who are having hissy fits over the fact Elon Musk had thoughts about the legislation that would have kept our government running until a budget could be passed. Forgive me if I laugh at the likes of Hillary Clinton who try to fan the fires of outrage and fear by saying that Musk is now running the country. That statement is not only false but also laughable. Who knew Shrillary had a sense of humor?

Elon Musk, this unelected man, said, we’re not doing this deal, and Donald Trump followed along,” House Minority Whip Katherine Clark told reporters on Thursday. Other Democrats said that they’d warned about exactly this — the wealthiest man in the world, running the government — before the election.

Pardon me while I laugh.

And laugh again. These folks are deranged with their hatred for Musk and Trump.

Did Musk march into the hallowed halls of Congress and hold a gun to the heads of those who voted against the funding bill? Nope. Did he pressure them? Sure. But they didn’t have to do as he said if they believed in the bill.

Whether you like Musk or not, this isn’t a case of him taking over the government in the wake of Trump’s election. If anything, it is a case of the current administration disappearing and being more than happy to point a finger at someone else in an attempt to avoid being seen for the failure that it is.

Ask yourself this: where was Biden during the days leading up to the vote on the measure and after?

Where was Harris? (Has anyone seen her recently?)

The fact that at a time when we were facing a government shutdown, we didn’t see the sitting president nor much of anyone else in his administration should concern all of us. Add to that the fact the Dems are trying to avoid the issue by fearmongering to avoid having to answer the hard questions and you have what many see as a fitting end to the Biden Administration.

If that isn’t bad enough, Hillary Clinton just had to get involved. She really can’t help herself. Any chance she gets to diss Trump or those associated with him, she’s going to pop her head up and let us know what she really feels. So we’d better be prepared for the next four years of her histrionics. (Heaven help us.)

Unlike Hillary and the Dems so “concerned” about the fact Musk might have influenced what happened, Musk et al appear to have been concerned with what the bill actually contained. This is evidenced by his comments on the next compromise bill to go up for a vote.

Oh, just so you know if you’ve been away from the news or the internet the last 20 hours or so, there is a deal in place and Biden came out of hiding long enough to sign it earlier today.

There will be no government shutdown right before Christmas,” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., said in a social media post as the votes came in. “We will keep the government open with a bipartisan bill that funds the government, helps Americans affected by hurricanes and natural disasters, helps our farmers, and avoids harmful cuts.”

What was the difference between the bill that failed to pass and the one that did?

Musk budget bill

Don’t know about you, but that sounds pretty darned good to me.

Notice also that many of the same Dems complaining about Musk and Trump derailing the earlier agreement had no objections when the Dems refused to compromise for 34 days during Trump’s first administration, leading to the longest single shutdown in US history. Their reaction this year simply proves yet again that many Democrats still suffer from Trump Derangement Syndrome with a side dose of Musk Phobia.

Here’s the thing: Biden is still in office. He is still supposed to be upholding his the oaths he took when he was sworn in. If the Democrats had concerns about the bill not passing, he should have been front and center working to make sure that didn’t happen. There is no reason they shouldn’t have anticipated Trump and Musk letting the members of Congress know how they felt about the bill. Nor should anyone be surprised if they put pressure on Republicans not to pass it. Instead of anticipating and working to make sure the bill received the necessary votes needed, there were only crickets from the Administration.

Crickets followed by finger pointing and blame casting. In other words, pretty typical behavior from the Administration and Democratic leadership.

The truth is multi-layered. There is too much fat in our budget and it needs to be trimmed. Neither party has been willing to do away with the “pork” that is their favored projects/departments/payouts/whatever. Trump probably is violating some unwritten “rule” about getting involved with the budget before being sworn in. But Biden also abdicated his responsibility a long time ago. Most of all, we’re going to be in for a lot of whinging and whining over the next four years as the Dems wonder what they could have done differently to avoid having to deal with Donald Trump yet again.
