The final outstanding U.S. Senate race is officially over.

Long-time Sen. Bob Casey Jr. (D-PA) finally conceded in the race against Pennsylvania Senator-elect Dave McCormick.

“During my time in office, I have been guided by an inscription on the Finance Building in Harrisburg: ‘All public service is a trust, given in faith and accepted in honor,’” Casey Jr. said.

“Thank you for your trust in me for all these years, Pennsylvania. It has been the honor of my lifetime,” he added.

“I just called Dave McCormick to congratulate him on his election to represent Pennsylvania in the United States Senate,” he said in a video posted to X.

Although the Associated Press called the race for McCormick on November 7th, Casey Jr. refused to concede.

From the New York Post:

The three-term Democratic incumbent insisted on a statewide recount, which the commonwealth’s Department of State projected would cost taxpayers more than $1 million to complete.

Democratic officials also launched a legal effort to count undated ballots in all of the Keystone State’s 67 counties, a last-ditch bid which was struck down earlier this week by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.

Casey said he was “proud” of the his team’s post-election efforts.

“This race was one of the closest in our commonwealth’s history, decided by less than a quarter of a point. I’m grateful to the thousands of people who work to make sure that every eligible vote cast could be counted, including election officials in all 67 counties,” he said in his video message.

Republicans will officially hold 53 seats in the upper legislative chamber next year.

“Disgraced Bob Casey has officially conceded in Pennsylvania. Congratulations to Senator-Elect Dave McCormick! We won’t forget that democrat Bucks County commissioners tried to steal this election. We’re still coming for your seats,” Scott Presler said.

Per Reuters:

With control of the Senate, Republicans will be in a position to confirm Trump’s personnel and judicial appointments, though they will still be short of the 60 votes needed to quickly advance most legislation.

After a recount was called, Casey on Thursday said that he was conceding to Republican Dave McCormick.

“This race was one of the closest in our Commonwealth’s history, decided by less than a quarter of a point,” Casey said in a video posted on X.

In the House, Republicans hold a slender majority over Democrats.
