Some Americans are breathing the sighs of relief that the dear Democrats did not win on a campaign of faux “hope and joy” with a side of bullying this year. But for some, they are still not over it.

Take Chauncey DeVega and his fellow writers at Salon. They have the big-time sads this season. DeVega discusses in detail why Democrats simply cannot get over the grief of losing to Donald Trump. DeVega argues that some Democrats are going through the stages of grief too slowly; justifying Kamala Harris’ loss by crunching election numbers and claiming Donald Trump “did not really win”.

If they proceed at the current pace, the Democrats (and their surrogates, news media and other opinion leaders — as well as rank-and-file voters and supporters) will not reach the depression and acceptance stages of grief anytime soon. As I have repeatedly warned here at Salon and elsewhere, they do not have the luxury of time.”-Chauncey DeVega

DeVega argues that the Democratic Party “needs to be in full opposition mode” here. No cooperation necessary. He thinks Kamala Harris’ and Joe Biden’s statements at the DNC Christmas party as “weak”:

Pass the Shiraz and sprinkle some empty platitudes on that word salad, Kamala.

Our spirit is not defeated. We are not defeated … We are strong, we are clear about why we are in this….We cannot let any circumstance or situation or individual ever take away our power … we know what we stand for, and that’s why we know what to fight for.”-Kamala Harris

Joe Biden’s remarks were not much better. Sure, the Democrats will justify all day long that the November election was not the “blowout” that MAGA claimed it was. Bt, I would venture to say, it may have been at least as big as any in Joe’s diaper:

My dad would say, when you get knocked down, you’ve just got to get up, get up. The measure of a person or a party is how fast they get up. The bad news for you all is I ain’t going nowhere. We’re going to stay engaged.”-Joe Biden

Engaged? Was that what this current president was over the last few years? I would hate to see an unengaged President PoopyPants.

DeVega argues that Barack Obama’s calls to “organize” for American pluralism were, to some, empty words. They are. Obama will call for “organizing and opposition” in the form of riots whilst watching from the comfort of his Martha’s Vineyard mansion as cities burn.

Tim Walz and his wife will just open the damn windows.

DeVega gets back to processing his grief and the sadness other Democrats may be going through by peppering in some quotes from therapists.

Trump and his MAGA agents and thought leaders possessed such a vision and that is why they were able to dominate on Election Day — and likely far beyond as they remake American society to serve their antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane political and societal project. If the Democrats had a strong leader, he or she would have one standing order: Grieve later, learn from the defeat and reorganize to fight back now. With such a strong leader, the Democratic Party would now have its marching orders instead of being lost and slowly forming a circular firing squad.“-Chauncey DeVega, Salon

Whooooo boy. Interesting choice of words on the firing squad, Bro. Antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane. It seems as if nazi-fascist has not worked very well for the Democrats in describing their opposition. They have to lean on different words nowadays. For months on end before the election, they claimed Kamala Harris was a “strong” leader. They claimed folksy Tim Walz was just a “regular guy”. They did not see how the ideologies of Kamala Harris and Tim Walz were those of an antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane political and societal project. How could they? All of the fragrance of hope and joy and vibes masked the stench from rising to the surface.

A decisive death knell for identity politics dangles the blessed possibility of no longer squandering our brief duration on this Earth on stupid conversations. One of the grimmest victories of today’s poor excuse for ‘progress’ has been to lure otherwise intelligent people into having debates over whether: women can have penises; racial discrimination cures racism; advancement in employment and education should be determined by skin colour; the Western civilisation that gave us penicillin, Rembrandt, Bach and the Hubble Space Telescope is a disgrace; being grotesquely fat is healthy; and wearing a sombrero that you bought yourself on Amazon is theft.”Lionel Shriver, Spiked

In fact, most of us have been through the antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane over the last few years. If you have been forced to lock down in your home, to close your business, to take a shot in the arm you did not want to keep your job, to recite a script and apologize because of the color of your skin, even though YOUR ancestors also came to this country with no shoes on their feet, you may have experienced this. If you are a student and you’ve received an “F” grade because you did not agree with the ideas your teacher or professor spewed out in a classroom, if you were mocked for your faith and accused of being “anti-science”, if you were disowned by family members or “unfriended” by “friends” because you believed differently, you may also relate. If you had an elderly family member who died scared and alone in 2020, or have been told your respect for the beauty and wonder of life before birth was-yes-“antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane”, you may have been a victim of this pluralism Obama dreams of. If your opposition to full-on-but-sanctioned genital mutilation of children was deemed as “antidemocratic, anti-pluralistic and inhumane”, you, too, were a victim of a Democrat who fell victim to communal, conform-or-else, group think.

The bullies have been put in their place and they are sad, trying to process their collective feelings. They will write articles on how to process this grief and this loss and make a call to their readers to “get angry” and “organize”.

So they won’t spout lingo like ‘cisgender’ if that might risk an eye-roll at parties. They won’t want to seem behind the times. If we convince them that woke is over, that their BLM lawn signs are passé, that maundering about ‘white privilege’ is boring and old hat, they’ll drop the whole patriarchy / neurodiversity / heteronormativity et al package in a New York minute. We just have to persuade them that woke is unhip. Which it always has been, but some people are slow.”-Lionel Shriver, Spiked

What we are seeing being played out is a classic movie script and the making of a Christmas tale. Think Home Alone where the seemingly innocent but sneaky bullies who get away with theft and lulling those into a false sense of security got outed and it is humiliating. They are mourning that they were not so tough after all. They are mourning their psych-babble games did not work on the “dumb Americans”. In reality, their grief is self-inflicted but still, they do not take ownership.

Who made that cameo appearance in Home Alone 2? Why, yes. That’s our incoming President, Democrats. Dear Democrats: Your grief was self-inflicted. We hate to say we told you so, but…

Merry Christmas to all! Hope and joy is just around the corner.
