The president of New York University’s College Republicans chapter resigned following her comments about Barron Trump in an interview with Vanity Fair.

In the interview, Kaya Walker said President Trump’s 18-year-old son is “sort of an oddity on campus.”

“He goes to class, he goes home,” she added.

Walker faced severe backlash for her comments.

“In light of recent reports concerning the President of our New York University (NYU) chapter, College Republicans of America (CRA) wishes to address the situation directly,” College Republicans of America said in a statement.

“We have been made aware of a statement made by the NYU chapter President that does not align with the values and principles upheld by our organization. Though Vanity Fair and The Independent unfairly framed what was said, upon review, we still found it to be inappropriate. The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night,” it continued.

“In response to recent events with our NYU chapter, College Republicans of America formally invites Barron Trump to join us in reshaping the Republican Party,” College Republicans of America wrote.

From the New York Post:

CRA president Will Donahue then extended a personal invitation to Barron to join their club.

“Barron Trump represents the future of the conservative movement and we would be honored to have him join College Republicans of America,” Donahue said in the statement.

“Strong leadership is built on resilience, courage, and the humility to rise above petty hostility — qualities that Barron has already demonstrated.”

It was not immediately clear whether Barron accepted the group’s invitation. CRA had broken a 100-year precedent by endorsing his father before the Republican primary, the group noted in the statement.

“Our support for President Trump is, and has been, a pillar of our organization,” the statement read.

The Hill reports:

While College Republicans believe Vanity Fair twisted Walker’s words, “we still found it to be inappropriate. The NYU chapter President submitted her resignation last night.”

Barron Trump is known for staying out of the political spotlight, but the president and first lady have credited him with helping his father connect with younger audiences during his presidential campaign last year, including by offering advice on which podcasts to go on.
