As another Lame Cherry exclusive in matter anti matter.
In conversations, I have heard that the hatcheries in America are all booked. Farm Stores are no longer accepting orders as of 3rd week March. The chickens which are appearing are a first come, first serve basis, no reservations.
The genius thing which the Holy Ghost moved us to was to get chickens a year ago for laying, and years before that for butchering which is in our freezer. The Brahmas we had problems with in being AI fertilized, but we did get about 15 to hatch last year and they are vigorous.
Yes President Trump has already brought egg prices down. For those hating on Mr. Trump, be sure to pay the 12 dollars a dozen and do not accept the reduced prices. Yes I know like the cheater non donors, they will just bitch and pocket the money to spend on poverty things like 600 dollar bedspreads of that necessity of weekends away.
It looks like laying hens are going to be hard to come by, unless some dufus does not show up and pick up their chicks or whatever. So what egg prices are, in probably the 3 dollar a dozen range are going to hold, until later this year, as the new pullets start coming into production.
I listen to the farm store gals as they have stories about asshole customers. There was a guy in there a few weeks ago who bitched at the chic girls, then went up and bitched at the checkout gals, and the rest of the management………..as he wanted to order six chicks, but wanted to make certain they were guaranteed to be hens, and that a rooster would not appear.
Female chicks are like 3 bucks a piece, maybe 5, so big spender would be out that in 30 bucks. I told the gal, I would have told the bastard, “Yes our guarantee is to we will refund your 3 dollars, IF the rooster is alive and returned to us, once grown to the point of it having a male comb present.
I would have told the manager what I was up to, because this idiot would have fed the bird to 1/3rd grown, and all I would have to do if finish him off, and butcher the rooster. It would be a great deal for me.
Am sure he would have bitched about feed costs or something else. I would just inform him to take his business elsewhere.
That is the situation now though in America. The hatcheries are at capacity, and you will either have to find someone who has chicks or wait until next year, and pay the price for eggs.
