These are sad times we are living in, when you can’t even take your family to enjoy a traditional Christmas event without worrying about getting shot.

Tragically, at least four people were seriously injured after a shooter opened fire at the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony in Concord, NC on Friday evening.

All four victims were hospitalized, with three fighting for their lives in critical condition.

Footage from the terrible incident was shared on social media:

At this time, we don’t have any details about who the shooter was or any motive.

Police are investigating the shooting.

The New York Post has the latest update:

The shooting happened at the city’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony on Union Street S near the intersection with Corban Avenue shortly before 7:30 p.m.

Police, Concord Fire and Cabarrus County EMS personnel were already at the event and responded immediately with medical aid and evacuation efforts.

The remainder of the event was canceled after the shooting.

The city said visitors should leave the area and drivers should seek alternate routes.

Witnesses say that they were watching a dance performance when the gunfire started.

From Queen City News:

“I’m older and I wouldn’t expect something like that to go on,” one attendee said. “There’s kids out here, you know, it’s a happy time.”

The city’s Christmas Parade is scheduled for Saturday in the same area, but no change has been announced for that event.

No suspects have been identified yet.

We’ll bring you any further updates as they come in.

Please pray for all of the victims and their loved ones.
