This just in…

In the latest Pentagon shake-up, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth has fired Navy Chief of Staff Jon Harrison.

Take a look at the breaking news:

We don’t have a lot of details yet as to why Harrison got the boot.

But, the timing is interesting.

Harrison’s firing comes just after Navy Undersecretary Hung Cao was confirmed by the Senate.

Politico reported that Harrison made several moves to limit the power of the Undersecretary position:

The sudden ouster, according to two defense officials and a former defense official, follows the confirmation this week of Navy Undersecretary Hung Cao.

The Pentagon, in a statement, confirmed Harrison’s departure. “He will no longer serve as Chief of Staff to the Secretary of the Navy,” it said. “We are grateful for his service to the Department.”

Harrison declined to comment.

The Navy secretary’s chief of staff has traditionally been a behind-the-scenes job, the senior aide who keeps everything moving smoothly. But Harrison, a Trump administration appointee who joined the service in January, had a rare level of power.

Harrison and Navy Secretary John Phelan had introduced sweeping changes to the Navy’s policy and budgeting offices and sought to limit the influence of the undersecretary job.

POLITICO previously reported that Phelan and Harrison had reassigned several aides who were supposed to help Cao navigate the role once he’s confirmed. They had also planned to interview all future military assistants for Cao to ensure decisions came from the secretary’s office.

Harrison is the latest — but far from the first — to be purged from the Department under Hegseth.

Daily Mail has more:

Harrison’s ouster comes as Hegseth has spent months cleaning house, with seemingly no one being off limits.

Some of the most significant firings have hit the Navy, including Admiral Lisa Franchetti, Chief of Naval Operations; Vice Admiral Nancy Lacore, Chief of the Navy Reserve; and Rear Admiral Milton Sands, Commander of Naval Special Warfare Command.

Arguably the most high-profile dismissal was General Charles Q. Brown Jr., who had been serving as the first black chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from May 2023 to February 2025.
