Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem became the target of a brazen theft inside a Washington, D.C. restaurant over the weekend, according to law enforcement sources and her own confirmation.
While attending a dinner Sunday night in the nation’s capital, Noem’s personal bag was stolen by an unidentified man who managed to walk out of the restaurant undetected. The incident was not made public until Monday, when Noem was asked about the theft during the White House Easter Egg Roll.
She acknowledged it had occurred and confirmed that the matter remains unresolved.
According to CNN, Secret Service agents, who provide Noem with full-time protection, reviewed security camera footage from the establishment and saw a white male suspect wearing a medical mask grab the bag and leave the restaurant without any apparent resistance.

The contents of the stolen bag are alarming, given Noem’s high-level position: her driver’s license, passport, apartment keys, medication, DHS access badge, blank checks, makeup bag, and roughly $3,000 in cash were reportedly inside.
A source familiar with the incident told CNN that the Secret Service is actively investigating, with a focus on tracking any attempted use of her financial information.
Noem recently took over as DHS Secretary. The event raises more questions about personal security lapses for those high up—especially within a city already facing scrutiny over crime and public safety.
However, the law enforcement source noted that efforts are underway to determine whether any of Noem’s government credentials or identification have been used or compromised. Neither the Secret Service nor DHS has released an official public statement on the investigation.
Noem previously served as the Governor of South Dakota from 2019 to 2025 and represented the state in Congress from 2011 to 2019. Known for her tough stance on immigration and strong conservative values, Noem has become a prominent political figure with a reputation for being outspoken and media-savvy.
Her background includes growing up on a ranch in South Dakota and starting her political career in the state legislature.
This is a developing story…
