A commitment to sanctuary state policies is a commitment to disregarding federal immigration laws, despite how many Americans this puts at risk. So while the federal government is currently committed to deporting criminal aliens, the same cannot be said for the City of Boston.

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu doubled down on this promise at the State of the City.

According to WCVB 5:

During the speech, Wu called out President Donald Trump and the federal government several times, including criticism of Trump’s Border Czar Tom Homan, who last month announced he was coming to Boston “to bring hell” after he accused city leaders of not complying with federal immigration laws.

“No one tells Boston how to take care of our own,” Wu said. “Not kings, and not presidents who think they are kings. Boston was born facing down bullies.”

The funny thing with that is that she’s claiming to protect the rights of foreign nationals while turning Americans and legal residents into second-class citizens. And that fact that some people cannot recognize that makes it so much worse.

Earlier this month, Wu testified alongside the Democratic mayors of other big cities at a contentious congressional hearing about so-called sanctuary city policies.

While at the hearing, Wu repeatedly defended Boston’s status as the safest major city in the U.S., a point she brought up during her speech as well.

“Together with our first responders, frontline public health workers, faith leaders, and partners in every neighborhood, we have made Boston the safest major city in the nation,” Wu said. “Four years ago, gun violence in Boston had just hit a ten-year high. Every year since taking office, we’ve set new record lows. Thank you to Commissioner Michael Cox and the entire Boston Police Department. Under your leadership, community policing has reached a new level of trust focused on safety and quality of life Downtown and across all of our neighborhoods.”

Wu previously claimed that she prioritizes keeping Boston residents safe, despite her commitment to protect criminal aliens.

It’s not possible to keep people safe while promising to protect those who have disregarded our federal laws the moment they arrived. Homan has made it clear that the internet is to “shut down illegal alien crime” and it’s deranged that she has a problem with that. This is why she refuses to admit that ICE removed criminals off her streets and why she uses the word “immigrant” when she really should be saying “criminal alien.”

So while she promises to do everything in her power to prevent the Trump administration from getting the worst offenders out of her city, Homan has promised “hell” and has made it clear he will not back down any time soon.
