San Diego Sector Border Patrol officials closed a migrant processing center due to a dramatic decrease in border crossings during the Trump administration.

“Due to the unprecedented decrease in illegal crossings this year, the massive 1,000 person, San Diego Sector Soft Sided Facility has been dismantled. In 3/2025, San Diego Sector arrested 1,199 illegal aliens with an average of 38 per day. This was a 186% drop compared to 3/2024,” San Diego Sector Acting Chief Patrol Agent Jeffrey Stalnaker stated.

Per Breitbart:

Chief Stalnaker reported that agents in this sector apprehended only 38 migrants per day in March 2025. This is a major drop from the 1,090 apprehensions per day just one year earlier — a 96.4 percent decrease. During the first three full months of the Trump administration, apprehensions fell to an average of 47 per day, according to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s Southwest Land Border Encounters Report.

Breitbart News Senior Editor-at-Large Joel Pollak reported that the Trump administration’s increased border security and immigration enforcement efforts also led to the closure of NGO migrant shelters near San Diego. Catholic Charities laid off 73 employees at two shelters used to temporarily house migrants released by the Biden administration onto the streets of California. Another 115 employees were laid off from the San Diego Rapid Response Network.

Similarly, Breitbart Texas’s Randy Clark reported that Biden-era migrant processing centers near Eagle Pass, Laredo, and McAllen, Texas, were also dismantled as they were no longer needed. A source within CBP told Breitbart the centers were no longer required after President Donald Trump cancelled Biden’s “catch and release” immigration policies. The source said the South Texas shelters cost approximately $10 million per month to operate.

Prior reports showed the number of border crossings under the Trump administration reached historic lows.

From U.S. Customs and Border Protection:

The month of March recorded the lowest southwest border crossings in history, marking a pivotal achievement in our nation’s border security efforts. This milestone demonstrates that operational control is becoming a reality — which seemed impossible just a few months ago under the Biden administration — as enforcement measures continue to yield significant results.

In March, the Border Patrol data shows that around 7,180 southwest border crossings were recorded, a dramatic drop compared to the monthly average of 155,000 from the previous four years. Daily southwest border apprehensions have also fallen to around 230 per day—a 95% drop from the previous administration’s average daily encounters of 5,100 per day.

“Under the leadership of President Trump and Secretary Noem, the administration has taken bold, decisive action to restore control at the border. Border Patrol agents are empowered like never before to shut down unlawful entry and protect American lives,” said Acting Commissioner Pete Flores. “The message is clear: the border is closed to illegal crossings, and for those still willing to test our resolve, know this — you will be prosecuted, and you will be deported.”

Furthermore, in March, new border wall contracts were signed, ensuring continued construction.

With decisive action and unwavering commitment, we are turning the tide on border security, restoring control, and safeguarding our nation like never before.
