Actor Devin Harjes, most well-known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire,” “Daredevil,” and “Gotham,” has passed away at the age of 41. Harjes died on May 27 at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City.
Harjes died after catching an illness after being diagnosed with cancer back in February. The actor is survived by both of his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, a sister, Trish Harjes, two nieces, and a former wife, Shiva Shobitha.
The 41-year-old “Boardwalk Empire” star hailed from Lubbock, Texas. As a child, he had an interest in horses and rode often. During his time in college, Harjes studied acting. His career in the industry began with off-Broadway productions and independent film projects.
According to The New York Post, Harjes made his television debut in 2011 with his role as Jack Dempsey in two episodes of “Boardwalk Empire.” Several years later, in 2015, Harjes took a role as Clyde, a bank guard, in “Gotham.” He was also in the hit Netflix series, “Daredevil,” where in 2015 he played Oscar, a nurse working at Rikers Island.
These weren’t his only roles either. He made appearances in episodes of “Orange is the New Black,” “Blue Bloods,” “Elementary,” and “FBI.” On the film side, he had roles in “Surprise Surprise, Mr. Conovy,” “Rebel in the Rye,” “Boyz of Summer,” and “The Forest is Red.”
Harjes’s role in the film “Boyz of Summer” landed him an Honorable Mention for Best Supporting Actor at the Long Island International Film Expo. He was also awarded Best Actor at the Tolentino International Film Festival in Italy for the part he played in “The Forest is Red.”
Antonio DiFonzo, director and writer of “Boyz of Summer,” composed a post on Facebook to honor the actor.
“Terribly sad news as we lost Devin Harjes, an amazing actor and friend,” DiFonzo said in his post. “He was constantly striving to be better and put his heart and soul into everything he did!”
“We will never forget you and your amazing part in The Boyz of Summer and our lives,” DiFonzo continued. “Rest in peace, Lion Heart!”
Part of the actor’s obituary contained this bit about what Harjes was like outside of his chosen profession: “Outside of acting, Devin was a dedicated student of martial arts and a regular at the gym—he often joked it was safer than getting kicked in the face by a horse.”
Harjes’s most recent role was a recurring part playing Peter Baylor on the NBC television series, “Manifest.”
