Sen. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) recently shared a health update about his son, Andrew, and his battle with a mysterious illness that doctors can’t seem to figure out. Andrew was hospitalized at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, while his medical team attempted to narrow down the cause of this strange sickness.
During recent months, Mulin — his own eyes bruised from surgery — announced that his son was scheduled to undergo two procedures. In the video post, Andrew stated that he wanted to be fully sedated, however the Mayo Clinic denied the request.
Earlier this week, Mulin shared on social media that Andrew wasn’t the only one in the family currently suffering from health problems. Several other family members, including himself, were also experiencing issues.
Sen. Mullin had eye surgery on April 11, while his wife, Christie, underwent “major knee reconstructive surgery” just a few days before. The senator’s mother suffered a stroke on the same day he had his surgery. He revealed his mother is doing better now, and so is he.
Andrew’s health issues have been a much bigger challenge to overcome.
“Andrew has been dealing with something a little different since January,” the senator went on to say while standing next to Andrew in a video posted on Tuesday. “He was at practice at OU and um —”
“[I] had a severe side pain and had to go to the E.R. and get checked out,” Andrew chimed in. He then explained that he had fluid in his lungs and some “growth spots that kept getting worse over time.”
“Since the video on Tuesday, Mullin has shared updates on his social media almost daily, if not more often. The day after sharing the health statuses of himself, his wife, his mother and his son, Mullin shared that the Mayo Clinic had ruled out cancer as a possible reason for the growth spots in Andrew’s lungs,” Fox News reported in April.
“Senator Mullin is at the Mayo Clinic this week supporting his son, Andrew, as he undergoes rigorous testing. The senator’s priorities are clear: God, Family, and everybody else,” a spokesperson for Mullin said in comments given to Fox News Digital.
Mullin thanked the public for their support and prayers during this difficult time for him and his family.
Back in 2020, Mullin’s other son, Jim, suffered a near-fatal blow to the head while wrestling. His pulse was faint as he was airlifted to a local hospital in Tulsa. When President Trump found out what happened, he called Mullin.
And the calls kept coming.
“He was at rehab for 18 months,” Mullin revealed in an interview at the time with Bloomberg Government on Capitol Hill. “The president called every week. He flew to Bakersfield, California, to see him. He offered to help us financially, which we didn’t need, but he offered to help us financially with it. He still asks about him. Every time we talk, he still asks how my boy is doing.”
