Latin Artist Bad Bunny has cleared the air regarding why he wore the number 64 on his outfit during the Super Bowl halftime show.
While watching the Super Bowl halftime show on Sunday, many viewers noticed Bad Bunny was wearing the number 64.
The number sparked a plethora of theories about why he chose it.
However, The Hill has set the record straight and revealed why he wore the number:
Theories concerning the “64” on Bad Bunny’s shirt at the Super Bowl halftime show have circulated since late on Sunday, with some fans believing it to be a nod to his mother’s birth year, or perhaps a reference to the 64th Congress — which passed an act granting Puerto Ricans citizenship over a hundred years ago.
But nope — it was something else entirely.
As theorized by some fans, the 64 on Bad Bunny’s outfit was an homage to the birth year of his late uncle Cutito, who he said taught him about football.
“The little I know about the NFL is thanks to him. He left for the United States at 17 to work and never returned to live in Puerto Rico, although he always visited us in late January or early February and stayed at our house,” the artist, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, explained in a translated statement provided to outlets including Rolling Stone and USA Today.
“That was right in the middle of the NFL postseason, so I always watched the games with him,” he added.
In his statement, Bad Bunny said his uncle was a 49ers fan, but died suddenly a few years ago, before they could go to a game together.
“So, during my Super Bowl halftime show, I decided to have him on my shirt: OCASIO, his last name, the same as my mother’s, and his birth year, 64,” he continued. “I dedicated my performance to him before it began. I’m sure he saw it, he was present, and he felt proud of his nephew.”

ESPN reported that Bad Bunny’s halftime show performance fell short of breaking any records and failed to beat last year’s Super Bowl halftime show viewership:
Sunday night’s Super Bowl and Bad Bunny fell short of setting records for most-watched U.S. broadcast and halftime show.
The Seattle Seahawks’ 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots averaged 124.9 million viewers on NBC, Peacock, Telemundo, NBC Sports Digital and NFL+, according to Nielsen’s Big Data + Panel rating system.
That fell short of the 127.7 million U.S. viewers who tuned in for the Philadelphia Eagles’ 40-22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs last year on Fox.
However, Super Bowl XL is the most-watched program in NBC history. The network is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year.
Bad Bunny’s halftime show averaged 128.2 million viewers from 8:15 to 8:30 p.m. ET. That would make it the fourth-most-watched halftime behind Kendrick Lamar (133.5 million, 2025), Michael Jackson (133.4 million, 1993) and Usher (129.3 million, 2024).
It was reported that over 5 million people watched the All-American halftime show featuring Kid Rock.
If viewers had not switched over, then Bad Bunny might have been able to beat the viewership record.
