🤣

Days after Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was reported dead (the joy) comes this news: his 56 year-old son, Mojtaba Khamenei is the “frontrunner” to replace him.

The officials said that the clerics were considering announcing that the son, Mojtaba Khamenei, would be his father’s successor as early as Wednesday morning but that some had expressed reservations, fearing that it could expose him as a target for the United States and Israel. They spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive internal deliberations.”-Farnaz Fassihi, The New York Times

It could expose him? You think? A few days back, it was believed Mojtaba Khamenei was killed in the same attack that took out the guy with the fluffy white beard and the winsome grin (Thanks for that, WaPo). But now, it is believed Mojyaba is very much alive.

Installing the younger Khamenei in what was once his father’s role could anger Iranians who took to the streets in economic protests that morphed into a referendum on the regime earlier this year.

But selecting Mr. Khamenei would send a message, according to some analysts, that hard-liners tied to the Revolutionary Guards remain in charge, suggesting little would soon change.”Ephrat Livni, The New York Times

It’s really bad when your options for “Supreme Leader” go from bad to worse. In all honesty, how, exactly, does Iran think this is going to work out for them?

Something tells us that he should not accept this position:

Mojtaba is the wisest pick right now because he is intimately familiar with running and coordinating security and military apparatuses. He was in charge of this already.

A portion of the public will react negatively and forcefully to this decision, and it will have a backlash.”-Mehdi Rahmati, Analyst in Tehran

A portion?

Bring on more corruption for Iran, because this is exactly what the Iranian people want and need (sarcasm).

Mojtaba Khamenei, widely seen as a potential successor to his father, is alleged to own several properties through shell companies. Despite projecting a life of simplicity, he is accused of having interests ranging from Persian Gulf shipping operations to opulent real estate across Europe. People familiar with the matter, who requested anonymity, said a complex web of firms has enabled the channelling of funds—estimated by some to run into billions of dollars—into Western markets, despite US sanctions imposed on him in 2019.”-Surarika Das, MSN

The “favorite son” was rumored to be treated for impotency during his money-laundering trips to London. All while his country was sanctioned for buying medicine. Such is the hypocrisy of a country that has rulers and dictators, such as Iran but don’t tell that one to the left-coast liberals.

Again, here’s to hoping. Here’s also to hoping Trump finishes the job.
