Argentina’s president Milei to declare national day of mourning for slain hostages

Argentinian President Javier Milei is set to declare a national day of mourning following the return of the remains of Shiri Bibas and her two young sons, Ariel and Kfir, who were kidnapped by Hamas on October 7, 2023.

According to Argentinian media reports, the mourning declaration will also honor Oded Lifshitz, whose body was among those returned to Israel by Hamas earlier today

Milei shared a photo of the Bibas family on social media, expressing deep sorrow over their fate. An Argentinian official told reportersl that the president will wait for official confirmation of the remains’ identities before making a formal decision, as per the Bibas family’s request.

The Bibas family held dual Israeli-Argentinian citizenship, making their deaths a deeply personal loss for Argentina.

The coffins believed to contain their remains have been transported to the Abu Kabir forensic institute near Tel Aviv for identification.
