MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Nicole Wallace criticized President Trump for honoring 13-year-old cancer survivor DJ Daniel.
President Trump, during his joint address to Congress, directed his Secret Service Director Sean Curran to make 13-year-old DJ Daniel an agent of the Secret Service.
DJ Daniel, who has “always dreamed of becoming a police officer,” was filled with joy as he was handed his Secret Service credentials.
Maddow, in reaction to the heart-touching moment, stated, “For the record, and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that.”

Here’s what Fox News reported:
MSNBC hosts Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace criticized President Donald Trump for featuring DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old cancer survivor, during his address Tuesday evening to a joint session of Congress.
“For the record, and this is disgusting, the president made a spectacle out of praising a young man who thus far survived pediatric cancer, as if the president had something to do with that,” Maddow said Tuesday evening in response to Trump’s address.
“This was in the midst of him praising [the Department of Government Efficiency],” she said. “The DOGE cuts, among other things, have cut off funding for ongoing research into pediatric cancer.”
“But I think this was a lesson in finding one thing that you let yourself feel,” Wallace said, also responding to DJ’s viral moment during Trump’s speech. “And I let myself feel joy about DJ, and I hope he’s alive for another, you know, 95 years and I hope he lives the life he wants to live. He wants to be a cop. He knows what he wants to do, and maybe when you have childhood cancer, that crystallizes for you.”
“I hope he has a long life as a law enforcement officer,” she said. “But I hope he never has to defend the United States Capitol against Donald Trump’s supporters, and if he does, I hope he isn’t one of the six who loses his life to suicide, and I hope he isn’t one who has to testify against the people who carried out acts of seditious conspiracy and then lived to see Donald Trump pardon those people.”

President Donald Trump recognized 13-year-old cancer survivor D.J. Daniel in the joint address to Congress on Tuesday. After recognizing Daniel, the president gave him a night he would not forget, helping Daniel achieve a lifelong dream to serve and protect others.
Daniel is a brain cancer survivor who wants to be a police officer when he grows up. Because of his medical condition, it was uncertain if Daniel would ever be able to do so. When Daniel was diagnosed with cancer, he was given five months to live. However, six years later, he has survived 13 brain surgeries and was one of Trump’s guests for the speech Tuesday night.
“He has always dreamed of becoming a police officer,” Trump said during his speech. “But in 2018, D.J. was diagnosed with brain cancer. The doctors gave him five months at most to live. That was more than six years ago. Since then, D.J. and his dad have been on a quest to make his dream come true.”
Trump named Daniel an honorary member of the Secret Service in a moment that many thought was heartwarming. However, talk show hosts at MSNBC, including Rachel Maddow and Nicolle Wallace, were critical of the exchange. Maddow characterized it as “disgusting” while commenting alongside a panel on MSNBC’s coverage of the speech.
