If they lied about THIS… what else are they willing to lie about for political gain?
IVF is a polarizing topic. For some, it is a life-changing miracle remedy to infertility. For others, the process itself, and the ‘surplus’ fertilized eggs tacks on a multiplier to the abortion problem.
Whatever your personal views on IVF might be, in the last election cycle, it was used as a political football. It all came down to an Alabama Supreme Court ruling made in a damages suit when some fertilized embryos were unintentionally destroyed by the clinic responsible for storing them. For the purposes of the lawsuit, the court decided that ‘wrongful death’ was the appropriate category for a damages suit.
This touched off a firestorm in which the Dems and their various proxies — already throwing their full weight behind the abortion question — chose to leverage this issue against the GOP, claiming that the GOP would ‘outlaw’ IVF. Here’s an example of the rhetoric from leftwing group ‘American Progress’:
The Alabama IVF decision did not occur in a vacuum. Every abortion ban, every personhood law, every appointment of a far-right judge, and every recent post-Dobbs case on reproductive freedom helped pave the way for this decision. Limits on abortion access both endanger the ability of people to decide if, when, and how to grow their families and restrict reproductive health decisions. These three cases are just a few of many that highlight how anti-abortion activists’ efforts to commandeer the judiciary are succeeding. Extreme judges are supplanting medical science with personal and political ideologies, at the expense of the health, safety, and rights of all Americans—and, now, their right to start a family.
Here are Joe and his spokesmuppet politicizing the issue about a year ago:
Here is evidence of the Dems refusing to pass IVF legislation that does NOT contain poison pills in it.
Trump’s campaign was explicitly supportive of IVF, even if it was an issue that could potentially divide part of his pro-life base.
Fast forward to yesterday, and Trump made good on yet another promise.
From the White House Fact Sheet:
LOWERING COSTS AND REDUCING BARRIERS TO IVF: Today, President Donald J. Trump signed an Executive Order expanding access to in vitro fertilization (IVF) for Americans.
The Order directs policy recommendations to protect IVF access and aggressively reduce out-of-pocket and health plan costs for such treatments.
The recommendations will focus on how to ensure reliable access to IVF.
Priority will also be placed on addressing any current policies, including those that require legislation, that exacerbate the cost of IVF treatments.
The Order recognizes the importance of family formation and that our Nation’s public policy must make it easier for loving and longing mothers and fathers to have children.
Skipping down to the closing thoughts…
President Trump has long advocated for more babies and expanding American families: “Because we want more babies, to put it very nicely. And for this same reason, we will also allow new parents to deduct major newborn expenses from their taxes, so that parents that have a beautiful baby will be able, so we’re pro family. But the IVF treatments are expensive. It’s very hard for many people to do it and to get it, but I’ve been in favor of IVF, right from the beginning.”
What does this tell us? It tells us that activist groups on the left were more than happy to fear-monger and demogogue hot-button issues like IVF despte Trump himself and the rest of the GOP showing pretty unanimous SUPPORT of IVF.
They did so because they thought that fear could motive their base to vote against Trump and independents leanig toward Trump to stay home.
If they’re so willing to get a transparent issue like this so blatantly wrong… what else have the politicians and their media enablers been lying about?
