In Washington state, firefighters had to rescue a woman who dropped her smartphone down the pit of an outhouse in a national forest and fell in while trying to collect it.
The woman, who was at the top of Mount Walker in the Olympic National Forest northwest of Seattle, was using her phone when it dropped into the toilet on Tuesday, according to Brinnon Fire Department Chief Tim Manly.
Manly claimed she dismantled the toilet seat and tried to obtain the phone with dog collars, eventually tying herself off as she reached for it. That effort failed, and she landed face-first in the toilet.
“They weren’t working very well, so she went in,” Manly explained.
The woman was alone and tried for 10 to 15 minutes to get away. When she reconnected with her phone, she dialed 911, according to Manly.
Firefighters passing by gave her bricks to stand on while attempting to reach a harness, which they used to pull her out of the vault. The woman said she was unharmed, according to the Brinnon Fire Department.
She was scrubbed down and “seriously recommended to seek medical assistance after being exposed to human feces,” according to the department, but she merely wanted to leave.
Manly stated, “I’ve been doing this for 40 years, and that was a first.”
