The deal that would see hostages released after more than a year held by Hamas is currently on the rocks, according to Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu.
The deal struck as a direct result of President Trump’s intervention was reportedly accepted yesterday, with details to be ironed out overnight.
Instead, there are conflicting reports about the future of the deal and its viability, with accusations coming from both sides.
Watch this report from Israel detailing the anticipation of the deal as reported by Fox News:
As you heard in that report, Hamas is publicly refuting Netanyahu’s accusations, saying that they are in acceptance of the deal as presented by the mediators.
Whether this is temporary political posturing for some purpose behind the scenes, or simply a localized hang up over details is not clear at the moment.
What is clear is that Israel is accusing Hamas of backtracking, and postponing the vote in the Israeli Knesset pending assurances that Hamas is in agreement on all points of the deal.
Apparently the Israeli position is that Hamas is “reneging on understandings” on some portion of the deal.Netanyahu announces a delay in the scheduled vote on the hostage deal. pic.twitter.com/bQ7B3qnkYx

Here’s a good post by Mario Nawfal detailing some of the specifics of the controversy this morning:

The delayed vote means a delay in the return of hostages, including American citizens, regardless of the reason for the hang up.Netanyahu accused Hamas of “reneging on understandings” and creating a “last-minute crisis,” halting the finalization of a hostage release deal.
The dispute reportedly centers on Hamas’ demands to dictate which Palestinian prisoners are released, contradicting previously agreed terms.
Mediators from Qatar and the U.S announced a deal was reached, but Netanyahu says unresolved issues are preventing cabinet approval of it.
Hamas denies the claims, insisting it remains committed to the agreement announced yesterday.
As I pointed out, Hamas is emphasizing its acceptance of the deal as presented.Israel delays vote on Gaza deal saying Hamas has reneged on parts of it. Check out this post by a Lebanese English news outlet reporting that Sami Abu Zuhri, a senor Hamas leader, is contradicting Netanyahu’s assertions that the group is backtracking.
Another Hamas leader, a member of the political arm of the group, issued a statement on Telegram a short time ago claiming the same thing — that they are committed to the agreement — according to a report by CNN this morning:#IsraelPalestineWar: Senior #Hamas leader Sami Abu Zuhri said on Thursday there was "no basis" to #Israeli allegations the Palestinian militant group was backtracking on elements of the #Gaza ceasefire and hostage release deal announced the day before.https://t.co/1DRcf6hSVx

According to Oli London on X, Netanyahu is claiming that Hamas is actually attempting to change the deal after it had already been agreed upon.Israel on Thursday morning delayed a cabinet vote on the Gaza ceasefire and hostage deal, blaming Hamas for reneging on parts of the agreement.
“Hamas reneges on parts of the agreement reached with the mediators and Israel in an effort to extort last minute concessions,” the Israeli Prime Minister’s Office said in a statement. “The Israeli cabinet will not convene until the mediators notify Israel that Hamas has accepted all elements of the agreement.”
Izzat al-Rishq, a member of Hamas’ political bureau, said in a statement on Telegram shortly afterward that Hamas “is committed to the ceasefire agreement that was announced by the mediators.”

It certainly seems as though there is some snag, but what the issue is in particular is not clear.Israeli PM Netanyahu warns Hamas is attempting to change the hostage release deal, despite the terms already being agreed upon.
“Hamas is reneging on the understandings and creating a last-minute crisis that prevents an agreement.
Hamas is backtracking on the explicit understandings reached with the mediators and with Israel in a last-minute extortion attempt.
Israel will not set a date for a Cabinet and government meeting until the mediators confirm that Hamas has approved all details of the agreement.”

Netanyahu is stating that his Cabinet won’t approve the agreement until Hamas backs down from their attempts to change the deal.
Meanwhile, Hamas is claiming they are committed to the deal as is, according to a report by NBC affiliate Channel 4 out of New York:
For the moment the deal that President Trump was able to achieve just a few hours ago seems to be on hold.Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Thursday that a “last minute crisis” with Hamas was holding up Israeli approval of a long-awaited agreement to pause the fighting in the Gaza Strip and release dozens of hostages. Israeli airstrikes meanwhile killed dozens of people across the war-ravaged territory.
Netanyahu’s office said his Cabinet won’t meet to approve the agreement until Hamas backs down, accusing it of reneging on parts of the agreement in an attempt to gain further concessions.
IIzzat al-Rishq a senior Hamas official, said the militant group “is committed to the ceasefire agreement, which was announced by the mediators.”
My expectation is that the posturing currently being witnessed is nothing more — posturing, designed to create a more favorable position during the ironing out of specifics in the deal.
Nevertheless, this is a developing story. We will bring you updates as usual as soon as more information becomes available.
