Notably, the MIT professor who was killed this week was also from Portugal.
Authorities believe they attended the same university in Lisbon, Portugal.
The New York Times provided more information:
As suspected earlier, authorities confirmed that Neves-Valente was responsible for both the mass shooting at Brown University and the murder of the MIT professor.Nuno F.G. Loureiro, the slain M.I.T. professor, was born and raised in Portugal and studied physics at the Instituto Superior Técnico in Lisbon.
Special Agent Docks, with the F.B.I., said that it was believed that the suspect attended the same university in Lisbon as the slain M.I.T. professor...
The president of Brown University, Christina Paxson, says that the suspect was enrolled at the school from 2000 to 2001. He was not a current Brown student. He was pursuing a graduate program in physics. “It is safe to assume that this man, when he was a student, spent a lot of time in that building” where the shooting occurred.
From NBC News:
The suspect's motive has not yet been released, at this time.Federal officials said tonight that they could confirm the death of the "Brown University and MIT professor shooter," adding that "there’s no longer a threat to the public" in a news statement.
Police said earlier today that they were investigating whether the two shootings were linked.
We'll continue to bring you further updates as they are revealed.
