Trump Unveils Immigration Solution ‘Don’t Come to Our Country Illegally’

The hysteria over the Trump administration “separating families” proves just how selective the media is in their outrage. The Department of Health and Human Services said that there were as many as 10,852 children in their custody at the end of May. Meanwhile, in 2013, Obama's HHS's Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) had 25,000 unaccompanied minors in their care.

Can't say I remember hearing much about the Obama administration “separating families.” But I do remember Obama's Department of Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson defending the kind of detention centers that Trump is being criticized for allowing. “I believe this (detainment) is an effective deterrent,” he said in 2014. (RELATED: Surprise: Obama Kept Illegal Families in ‘Deplorable Conditions' As a ‘Deterrent'). What Johnson said was pointing out the obvious, really. If you have severe consequences for a crime, people are much less likely to commit it in the first place. (RELATED: Illegal Immigrant Warns Others Not to Come to America Because ‘The Law is Very Tough').

If you went to the doctor and told him that it hurts whenever you raise your arm, he'd probably tell you to stop raising your arm. Likewise, the Trump administration has a similar common-sense diagnosis here.

According to The Hill, “Trump on Tuesday responded to his administration missing a court-ordered deadline to reunite separated immigrant families by saying people shouldn't ‘come to our country illegally.' ‘Well, I have a solution. Tell people not to come to our country illegally. That's the solution. Don't come to our country illegally. Come like other people do. Come legally,' Trump told reporters. ‘I'm saying this: We have laws. We have borders. Don't come to our country illegally. It's not a good thing,' he added.”

Sounds like common sense, doesn't it?

Trump's comments came after the administration missed a court-ordered deadline to reunite roughly 100 children under 5 years old separated from their parents. Only about 54 of those children will be reunited before the deadline.

It should be clarified that it's not all children being separated from parents who are caught illegally crossing the border. Only children whose parents applied for asylum in the U.S. have been separated from their children as they await trial (and those who don't are deported together). This has affected roughly 3,000 children, most of which are reunited with their parents within a month. Over 90 percent of asylum requests are rejected, so those applying are knowingly separating themselves from their children for no reason the overwhelming majority of the time. I'd call that child abuse, personally.

Regardless, there's no denying that illegal immigrants could prevent 100% of the hardships they're facing in attempting to illegally cross the border, by not illegally crossing the border.
