Senate REJECTS Amendment To Kick Illegal Aliens Off Medicaid – ONE Republican Sides With Dems To Vote Against

The Senate has been busy today voting on rapid-fire amendments to President Trump’s ‘Big, Beautiful, Bill.’

The goal is to fine-tune the details and have a final vote on Wednesday. President Trump has said he wants it on his desk by this Friday.

One of those amendments that the Senate voted on today would have removed taxpayer-funded Medicaid benefits for illegal immigrants.

It should have been a no-brainer. This isn’t good for the American people!

However, it ended up failing, with a vote of 56-44.

…but the DEMOCRAT PARLIAMENTARIAN decided it needed 60 votes while scrutinizing the Big Beautiful Bill.

Four Democrats voted ‘yes’ on the amendment, and one Republican voted against it.

That was Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.

The Post Millennial reported:

43 Democrats and Maine Republican Susan Collins voted against the amendment, resulting in it not reaching the 60-vote threshold. Four Democrats sided with Republicans in voting for the amendment: Sens. Jon Ossoff, Raphael Warnock, Catherine Cortez Masto, and Maggie Hassan.

Sen. Marsha Blackburn was the one who filed the amendment:

We must strengthen Medicaid by ending the corruption that has allowed 1.4 million illegal aliens to exploit the program on the taxpayers’ dime.

After its failure, she said:

Democrats just blocked my amendment to stop illegal immigrants from receiving Medicaid coverage.

Why do they want illegal aliens to receive government benefits on the taxpayers’ dime?

Sen. Cornyn brought forth the amendment.

He blasted Democrats for refusing to pass it:

But, the worst part of all this is not even that so many Democrats and Sen. Collins want to keep handing over taxpayer money to give illegal immigrants free health benefits.

That’s terrible, don’t get me wrong. Who are these people really representing?

But, even worse is the fact that the amendment would have passed under its original terms.

You see, the amendment originally needed to get over 50 votes to pass.

But, Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough — an unelected worker — determined that it needed at least 60 to pass because it “violated budget reconciliation rules.”

The Daily Caller explained how that works:

The incumbent senator introduced the amendment following Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough’s determination that the provision violated the upper chamber’s so-called budget reconciliation rules. Cornyn said Thursday that he would not let a “unelected Senate staffer” stop Republicans from passing Trump’s policy priorities into law.

Republicans are using the so-called budget reconciliation process to steer around Democratic opposition and clear the president’s domestic policy bill by a simply majority vote.

Provisions that MacDonough strikes from the bill would be subject to a 60-vote threshold and would need some Democratic buy-in to pass.

Does that sound fair to you?

That an unelected Senate worker has so much control over the amendment-passing process?

An unelected staffer just blocked the Senate from cutting Medicaid for criminal aliens.

Elizabeth McDonough is overruling 53 Senators and 77 million voters.

This is a direct betrayal.

Fire her. Override her. Change the rules.

Ultimately, John Thune is at fault here for allowing it all.

He has the authority to change the rules or simply ignore the Parliamentarian’s new rules.

Yet, he just stood by and did nothing, allowing illegal aliens to continue receiving Medicaid.

John Thune just approved 1.4 million illegal aliens to get taxpayer funded Medicare.
