The United States, UK and France took action against Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad in the form of precision strikes last night.

A perfectly executed strike last night. Thank you to France and the United Kingdom for their wisdom and the power of their fine Military. Could not have had a better result. Mission Accomplished!

It wasn't a formal declaration of war. This is a big game of chess. (And I don't mean “game” in a flippant kind of way either. It's serious.) I've heard both sides of the argument. Some say this is a waste of money on another pointless war. Others say the United States is FINALLY leading the world again, enforcing red lines and acting as the force for good.

This is about more than just Syria. It's about the threat they pose to our nearby allies. It's about Russia and Iran too.

SPEAKING OF. Russia isn't happy with their “puppet.” (Can we stop calling Trump Putin's puppet now? These strikes really trash that whole narrative.)

Basically, Russia is describing the US-led strikes an “act of aggression” and warning of “consequences.”

Early Saturday, Russian President Vladimir Putin issued a statement saying the Western coalition's “act of aggression” would only exacerbate the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria.

Putin called the strike a “destructive influence on the entire system of international relations” and said Moscow would call for an emergency meeting of the U.N. Security Council.

Meanwhile, Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is calling the US-led coalition's actions a “major crime,” and Syria's Foreign Ministry is describing the attack as a “flagrant violation of the international law.”

“The worst apprehensions have come true,” Anatoly Antonov, Russia's ambassador to the U.S., tweeted Friday. “Our warnings have been left unheard.

“A pre-designed scenario is being implemented,” Antonov said. “Again, we are being threatened. We warned that such actions will not be left without consequences. All responsibility for them rests with Washington, London and Paris.

“Insulting the President of Russia is unacceptable and inadmissible,” he said. “The U.S.—the possessor of the biggest arsenal of chemical weapons—has no moral right to blame other countries.”

Um. The US isn't using weapons against innocent people, dingwad.

Whatever.

This is far from over, but I'm not convinced we're on our way to WWIII. I don't think there's any need to get that hysterical. At least, not yet.
