President Trump went after The New York Times on Friday. The Times had it coming, as its constant cacophony of anti-Trump agitprop, lies, and Democrat talking points render it deserving of such a presidential rebuke.

“I laugh at them all,” President Trump wrote in a Twitter post hitting the paper. “The @nytimes is a total mess!”

….beginning, was forced to apologize (Fake News!) after the seriously wrong call of the 2016 Election, and is now willing to write anything, even if not truthful. He laughs at his boss, Publisher A.G. Sulzberger, and I laugh at them all. The @nytimes is a total mess!

Executive Editor Dean Baquet of the Times “is to be seriously respected,” Trump wrote. “He has long been considered one of the dumbest men in the world of journalism, and he became Executive Editor of the Failing New York Times. Not easy to do.”

Perhaps the reason for the president's ire is that during a recent appearance on CNN, Times writer Donald McNeil said Vice President Mike Pence was a “sycophant” in his relations with Trump.

The backlash was so hard on this interview, as Pence is well regarded personally even by many of his political foes, that the paper had to apologize posthaste in a statement: “In an interview with Christiane Amanpour today [May 12], Donald McNeil, Jr. went too far in expressing his personal views. His editors have discussed the issue with him to reiterate that his job is to report the facts and not to offer his own opinions. We are confident that his reporting on science and medicine for The Times has been scrupulously fair and accurate.”

That was quite a climbdown for a publication that routinely prints falsehoods about every member of the Trump administration. The president was quick to notice their retreat on the subject, saying, “The Failing New York Times thinks that is O.K., because their hatred & bias is so great they can't even see straight. It's not O.K.!”

Trump had previously condemned the paper and Bloomberg News for their reporting on his presidential campaign. Baquet of the Times defended Bloomberg News and by implication his own paper, saying, “Bloomberg News is one of the largest and most influential news organizations in the world. We condemn any action that keeps quality news media from reporting fairly and accurately on the presidency and the leadership of the country.”

After constant criticism from Trump, Times publisher A.G. Sulzberger last year accused the president of “trying to delegitimize real news, dismissing factual and fair reporting as politically motivated fabrications.”

Coming from The New York Times, the irony of those words is heavy indeed. This is a paper with a history of making up the news to suit a hard prog ideological agenda. In the 1930s its Moscow reporter Walter Duranty won a Pulitzer Prize for reporting from Russia. He just forgot to mention the slaughter of 7-10 million Ukrainians in an enforced famine launched by the Soviet government in Moscow.

Twenty years later, Times reporter Herbert Matthews assured readers that a young bearded Cuban revolutionary who sought to overthrow American ally and Cuban leader Fulgencio Baptista was a genuine Democrat who believed in liberty and the free market. After Matthews got his wish and Fidel Castro became the dictator of Cuba, Castro shed any Democratic trappings and revealed himself to be the communist he always was and that Matthews likely always knew he had been. These are examples of the professionalism and accurate reporting of The New York Times. Since then, during the 80s and in the modern PC era, the paper has gone to new lengths of bias and distortion.
