The United States military, alongside Israeli forces, has completely destroyed Iran’s Navy and has taken out a majority of Iran’s leadership.

President Trump, along with Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, has deemed Operation Epic Fury a success.

The military operation, however, comes at a steep price.

CBS News reported how much the war is costing just in the first week:

The first week of the U.S.’ war with Iran cost around $11.3 billion, military officials told members of Congress in a briefing this week, according to sources familiar with the meeting.

That figure is a low-end estimate and does not include the build-up costs of moving assets into place ahead of the operation’s start on Feb. 28. The war was preceded by a monthslong military buildup, with two U.S. aircraft carriers and their escort ships shifted to the Middle East.

The estimate was first reported by The New York Times.

Sen. Chris Coons, the top Democrat on the Senate subcommittee that handles defense appropriations, told reporters Wednesday he believed the $11.3 billion figure was “roughly accurate.”

Coons also said: “I expect that the total operating number is significantly above that.”

He said it would be a “fair guess” that the war’s daily cost is well over $1.5 billion, though it varies day-to-day depending on military operations. The cost of replacing the munitions that have been used in the war is probably “already well beyond $10 billion,” he said.
According to the Pentagon, Trump’s operation in Iran cost $11.3 billion in its first six days, exceeding DOGE’s total savings ($9.4 billion codified by Congress) by roughly $2 billion.

The number today, 12 days into the war, is certainly much higher.

The high costs are not just financial.

PBS reported 140 soldiers have been injured since the war began:

The Pentagon said Tuesday that about 140 U.S. service members have been wounded in conflict with Iran.

“The vast majority of these injuries have been minor, and 108 service members have already returned to duty,” Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said in an emailed statement. Eight are currently “severely injured,” Parnell added.

These numbers are the first insight into the broader toll of injuries sustained by U.S. troops after a barrage of retaliatory rocket and drone strikes from Iran that also killed seven soldiers in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

An estimate the Pentagon sent to Congress does not appear to include other war-related expenses besides munitions, according to a person who spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the private briefing.

The tally is higher than previous estimates by outside analysts, and the daily amount is expected to fluctuate. The war is currently in its 11th day.

The Trump administration has said it may seek supplemental war funds from Congress, but several lawmakers have insisted they would refuse to approve any more money for the Pentagon.

The annual Defense bill sent some $838 billion to the Pentagon earlier this year and the Defense Department was provided $150 billion in extra funds last year as part of Trump’s big tax breaks bill that became law.

Senator ‘dissatisfied and angry’ after classified briefing
“I am left with more questions than answers, especially about the cost of the war,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., told reporters after a classified briefing before the Senate Armed Services Committee.
Are the costs worth it?
