President Trump marked seven weeks in office on Friday after a week of promoting American investment and seeking peace abroad.

On Tuesday evening, Trump delivered an address to Congress where he touted his administration’s work on immigration, energy, the economy, foreign policy, ending federal censorship, and protecting children from gender ideology.

Congressional Address

During his remarks to Congress, Trump highlighted some of the eye-popping waste the Department of Government Efficiency is targeting, including transgender mice studies and inclusion for “sedentary migrants.”

“Nobody knows what that is,” Trump said as the crowd erupted in laughter.

Two heartwarming moments saw DJ Daniel, a 13-year-old boy with brain cancer made an honorary Secret Service agent, and Trump informed high school senior Jason Hartley, who lost his dad when he was young, that he was accepted to West Point.

Trump’s address also saw rowdy displays from Democratic lawmakers like Representative Al Green, (D-TX) who yelled and shook his gold-handled cane at the president until he was forcibly removed from the chamber. Green was later formally censured by the House.

As their guests for the address, Trump and the First Lady invited the widow and two daughters of Corey Comperatore, the firefighter who was killed by the gunman who also shot Trump at a Pennsylvania campaign rally.

They also invited the mother and sister of Laken Riley, a young female nursing student who was murdered by a Venezuelan migrant during her morning jog in Georgia, and the mother of Jocelyn Nungaray, a 12-year-old girl who was raped and murdered by two Venezuelan migrants during a walk to a corner store in Houston.

To honor Jocelyn, who loved animals, Trump signed an order renaming the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge near Houston the Jocelyn Nungaray National Wildlife Refuge.

The White House also invited Payton McNabb, whose athletic dreams were crushed when a trans-identifying male spiked a volleyball at her head and gave her a traumatic brain injury; and January Littlejohn, a mother who sued her daughter’s school for encouraging her daughter’s gender identity change behind her back. Also invited and recognized by Trump was Marc Fogel, whose release from Russia the president recently secured, and his 95-year-old mother.

Trade And Investment

Sweeping 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico went into effect on Tuesday, Trump’s way of pressuring the countries to halt the flow of fentanyl over the north and south borders.

However, on Thursday Trump paused many of those tariffs, saying that goods covered under the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the trade pact he signed in his first term, would be exempt until April 2. The trade deal covers about 50% of Mexican imports and 38% of Canadian imports.

He also paused the tariffs for American carmakers after Ford, General Motors and others said the penalties would damage them.

Meanwhile, Trump raised tariffs on China from 10% to 20%, saying China has not done enough to alleviate the illicit drug crisis.

Canada and China both imposed retaliatory tariffs, China saying it is ready to “fight till the end” in a “tariff war, a trade war or any other type of war.”

Trump is also preparing to impose “reciprocal tariffs” on April 2 on foreign countries that have taxes on U.S. imports.

Trump also signed an executive order for the “immediate expansion” of American timber production on federal lands to decrease reliance on imported lumber, especially as tariffs kick in on Canadian lumber.

The president also announced another investment from abroad — Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company will invest $100 billion in manufacturing semiconductor chips in Arizona, which Trump said will create thousands of high-paying jobs.

The White House said it is the “largest foreign direct investment in U.S. history” and that Trump has already secured a total of $1.6 trillion in investments compared with Biden’s $1 trillion over four years.

Trump also established the Strategic Bitcoin Reserve and a stockpile of other digital assets just before hosting a crypto summit at the White House.

Foreign Conflicts

Trump continued pressuring Ukraine to make a deal to end its war with Russia, including temporarily suspending military aid and Ukraine’s access to satellite imagery it uses to track Russian troops.

He said he is “strongly considering” imposing sanctions and tariffs on Russia until a peace deal is reached.

Trump also met with eight hostages from Gaza, who thanked him for his efforts to bring them home as he listened to their stories.

Immigration

Vice President JD Vance visited the southern border, taking a helicopter to view Eagle Pass, an illegal immigration hotspot, visiting a Border Patrol detention facility, and holding a discussion about Trump’s crackdown.

Punishing Lawfare

Trump also took aim at the onslaught of emergency lawsuits being filed daily against his administration, invoking a rule to make people post money at the beginning of a court case, which could discourage more lawsuits.

Trump also stripped security clearances from Perkins Coie, a law firm that did work for Democrats during the 2016 campaign.

Administration Moves

The Treasury said it would stop enforcing burdensome, Biden-era reporting requirements on small businesses.

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services warned hospitals to comply with Trump’s executive orders on the “dangerous chemical and surgical mutilation of children” or transgender surgeries and hormones.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention launched a new tool to increase transparency around conflicts of interest among its vaccine advisory committee members.

The Justice Department arrested the ISIS terrorist who orchestrated the murders of 13 U.S. service members at Abbey Gate as well as two illegal migrants accused of running one of the largest human smuggling rings in the country.

Also this week, the Department of Veterans Affairs and the Environmental Protection Agency both canceled hundreds of millions of dollars worth of wasteful grants and unnecessary contracts.

Education

Linda McMahon was confirmed as Education Secretary on Monday, and a draft of an executive order effectively shuttering the Education Department was reported in the media, although Trump has not signed it yet.

The administration also canceled $400 million of federal money to Columbia University, citing the school’s failure to protect Jewish students from harassment.

Trump signed an executive order to ban student loan forgiveness for nonprofits that engage in a “substantial illegal purpose,” for example groups that flout his executive orders on diversity, equity, and inclusion, gender ideology, or illegal migrants.

Other Moves

Trump designated English as the official language of the United States.

Trump also set up a White House task force for the FIFA World Cup 2026, which will include some games in the United States.

The president also recognized March as awareness month for colorectal cancer, which kills 50,000 Americans a year, saying the administration is “strongly committed to ending our Nation’s chronic disease epidemic and making America healthy again.”

Trump also recognized Ramadan, saying the administration “recommits to upholding religious liberty that is such an integral part of the American way of life.”

Trump also recognized Women’s History Month, saying, “no longer will our government promote radical ideologies that replace women with men.”

He also recognized Irish-American Heritage Month, saying “Irish Americans are known as some of the toughest, most driven, and most devoted people on the face of the Earth.”

Trump proclaimed National Consumer Protection Week, saying his administration will “never waver in its commitment to promoting consumer rights,” including on drug prices and crypto.

First Lady

Trump and First Lady Melania Trump recognized National Read Across America Day, saying the administration “remains committed to instilling a profound love of reading in our youth and forming the next generation of patriotic leaders.”

Melania held a discussion with lawmakers on the online protection of children and passing a bill focused on cracking down on revenge porn.

The First Lady also announced that the White House gardens will be open for tours in the spring.
