If you didn’t know better, it would almost seem like Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker (Dem), the Chicago Public School district, and the mainstream media actually want ICE Agents to conduct a raid on a school — just so they’ll have something tangible to scream about.

According to all three, that’s exactly what happened this week at a Chicago elementary school.

The only problem with that accusation is that it is completely and undeniably false.

But that hasn’t stopped the Governor and certain news outlets from sticking to their stories.

After all, why should a few stubborn FACTS get in the way of a perfectly usable political narrative?

First, the Chicago Public Schools (CPS) made the claim that ICE Agents had raided an Elementary School on Chicago’s south side on Friday.

The Governor helped propagate the hoax, as well as multiple mainstream media outlets.

Chicago Public Schools falsely claimed they blocked ICE officers from entering a school today. The narrative took off – but apparently nobody bothered to check with DHS or ICE, which both denied the claim that ICE was at/near a school.

It turns out that a federal organization did visit the school.

The Secret Service reports that it responded to some sort of ‘threat’, but ICE and DHS both deny any involvement at the school in question.

Here’s a report by ABC 7 Eyewitness News out of Chicago with the accurate and truthful information regarding the hoax:

Amazingly, Illinois Governor JB Pritzker still has not retracted any of the false information he shared over two days ago.

Pritzker (which I have enjoyed pronouncing incorrectly, out loud, as I write) blamed Republicans for “sowing fear and chaos” for an event that never happened.

The reality, then, is that the Democrat Governor is… sowing fear and chaos… by propagating information that is known to be inaccurate. (That’s a nice way of saying that it was a LIE.)

Even the X Community Notes have pointed out the inaccuracy of the information being shared to slander President Trump’s immigration policy!

After a week of Republicans sowing fear and chaos, the first reports of raids in Chicago are at an elementary school.

Targeting children and separating families is cruel and un-American. https://t.co/GEJP3W1d2q

The truth of the matter is that the U.S. Secret Service responded to the school to investigate some sort of “threat” that has not been specified.

There were a total of ABSOLUTELY NO DHS or ICE agents at the school.

But the school officials immediately claimed that ICE agents were denied entry into the school when they attempted to enter; which was a complete and total lie, according to the corresponding article by the local ABC News affiliate:

The U.S. Secret Service told the I-Team they approached a South Side school Friday. Chicago Public Schools officials had initially said the agents were from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Secret Service said they were investigating a threat, and responded to a house. They said they were then told the person they wanted to talk to was at Hamline Elementary School, but they did not enter the school, the Secret Service told the I-Team.

The alleged threat the Secret Service was investigating was not immediately clear.

CPS officials initially claimed at least one ICE agent was denied entry to the South Side elementary school Friday morning. ICE said it was not a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement encounter.
Ultimately, the school issued a statement correcting its earlier assertion.

(Still, the Governor has not amended his false claims!)

Here’s the clarifying statement issued by the school:

“Earlier today, Chicago Public School leaders shared that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents showed up this morning (Friday) at Hamline Elementary School. After our District officials shared public statements, we learned that the agents who visited the school were from the U.S. Secret Service. Our original communication was a result of a misunderstanding, reflective of the fear and concerns in the community amid the new administration’s focus on undocumented immigrants. Here’s what happened: Two individuals showed up at the school door and presented identification that includes the name Department of Homeland Security, the federal agency that oversees ICE. School officials proceeded to respond to the agents with the understanding that they were from ICE, amid rumors and reports that the agency was in the community. Regardless of which branch of Homeland Security visited this school, officials followed the established protocols to ensure student safety. The agents were not allowed into the school or permitted to speak with staff or students. Hamline administrators also worked with CPS’ Law Department and CPS’ Office of Safety and Security. The situation was handled with the federal agents leaving the campus without entry. While this was a misunderstanding in terms of the specific branch of DHS, the school’s response demonstrates that our system, in partnership with community organizations, is prepared and ready to keep our students and staff safe.”
I would point out that according to Chicago school officials, their idea of keeping their students and staff safe… hinges almost entirely on whether or not they are successful in denying entry to legitimate law enforcement personnel.

Not only is that a completely skewed view of “safety”, it is also a terrible precedent to set.

They are purposefully teaching kids that the DANGER they are most likely to face in life is from LAW ENFORCEMENT.

If my intention was to INCREASE the frequency and severity of bad interactions between law enforcement and the public in the future… that is exactly what I would attempt to do.

Nell Salzman of the Chicago Tribune has also continued to spread the false information, until she spoke to a Secret Service spokesperson who confirmed it was their agents, and not ICE, who approached the school because of some ‘threat’; not for immigration issues.

Mike Nellis, a democratic strategist and former adviser to Kamala Harris, couldn’t resist weighing in.

He, too, shared the false information with no retraction, even after the truth had been widely reported.

If you’ll notice, he did share the news story from ABC 7 out of Chicago. But he shared it on the 24th, before the story had been revised and updated to confirm the truth — that there had been no ICE raid at the school.

But once the story had been updated to reflect the truth, the public interface of the link still seems to indicate what the original story indicated; that ICE agents attempted to raid the school for immigration purposes.

Not to be left out, MSNBC also shared the hoax via a video report featuring Pedro Martinez, the Chief Executive Officer for Chicago Public Schools:

The CEO of Chicago Public Schools went on MSNBC three hours ago and wined about how ICE agents showed up to a Chicago school — except they turned out to be Secret Service.

Seems like Katy Tur should have checked with ICE before doing this segment. https://t.co/prwXUC6NPZ pic.twitter.com/ilxVmMsIQH

If there was still any question, the incident categorically did not involve ICE agents, according to a report quoting ICE officials by Newsweek:

Chicago Public Schools (CPS) officials say that they blocked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents attempting to carry out President Donald Trump’s mass deportation policy from raiding an elementary school on Friday—but a spokesman for ICE denied it was the immigration agency, and it was later revealed that Secret Service agents visited the school instead.

“This was not an U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement encounter,” David L. Yost said in an email statement sent to Newsweek.

CPS officials said that ICE agents were turned away after attempting to raid Hamline Elementary School at around 11:15 a.m. on Friday morning. The school is located in Chicago’s predominately Hispanic Back of the Yards neighborhood.

In an email sent to Newsweek on Friday night, a CPS spokesperson indicated that the earlier assumption that ICE agents were attempting to raid the school was a “misunderstanding” and was “reflective of the fear and concerns in the community amid the new administration’s focus on undocumented immigrants.”
Imagine that — the school inadvertently admitted that FEAR led to the misidentification of the Secret Service personnel, even after the Secret Service agents showed their credentials to the school leadership!

They somehow think their “fear” exonerates them, and casts blame on the person they are afraid of.

Sane people know that is an irrational logic, and deserves the ridicule they are now receiving online.

Stacy Davis Gates, President of the Chicago Teachers Union, held a press conference praising the school for following the protocol, which in effect thwarts the legitimate authority of law enforcement.

During the news conference, Davis brought the principal of the school in question to the microphone who reiterated that their primary job is to ‘protect their children’ from law enforcement.

It should be noted that the second half of the press conference was held in Spanish rather than English.

The bottom line is that all these entities — Pritzker, the principal, the Chicago Public School officials, and the mainstream media — all knew that ICE agents were never near the school.

It was a complete fabrication, another hoax, designed to make President Trump and those executing his immigration plan look bad. Nothing more.

And it is likely only the first of many more hoaxes as the information warfare increases, and democrats get more and more desperate to make President Trump look bad.
