As WLT Report covered earlier, Governor Tim Walz has officially dropped out of the 2026 Minnesota Gubernatorial Race.

Walz’s decision to suddenly drop out comes as over a billion dollars of fraud from Healthcare and Daycare was exposed in the state.

Now with Walz out of the picture, Democrats are jockeying to be the Democratic gubernatorial nominee.

The Hill reported who has the best shot to be Walz’s replacement:

Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz’s (D) stunning decision to drop his reelection bid is raising speculation that Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) may run for the seat, thrilling members of her party at a time when they find themselves ensnared in a growing political scandal over widespread fraud.

The New York Times reported that Walz and Klobuchar met on Sunday, a day before Walz officially announced his move to forgo a run for a third term. A source close to Klobuchar told NewsNation she was “considering it” but hadn’t made a final decision yet.

A potential Klobuchar gubernatorial bid is seen as a boon for Democrats, who have struggled to counter Republican attacks over the fraud scandal as they look to win races for governor and Senate this year.

“I think it’s kind of a no-brainer for the Democrats for her to step in this space, and I think it all but assures them victory coming up,” said Sean Oyaas, who served as a top political aide on the Walz-Flanagan campaign from 2018-22.

Walz announced Monday he would forgo his reelection bid for a third term as the widespread fraud scandal roiled his campaign. Prosecutors allege that as much as $9 billion has been stolen as part of a sweeping fraud scheme involving state-administered social welfare programs, such as food assistance for children in need.
Here was U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar’s response to Walz dropping out of the race:

Governor Walz made the difficult decision to focus on his job and the challenges facing our state rather than campaigning and running for reelection. He has always dedicated his career to delivering for Minnesota — from providing school breakfast and lunches to our kids to…

Governor Walz made the difficult decision to focus on his job and the challenges facing our state rather than campaigning and running for reelection.

He has always dedicated his career to delivering for Minnesota — from providing school breakfast and lunches to our kids to passing gun safety legislation to maintaining our state’s AAA bond rating.

He is a true public servant.
On the Republican side of the race, the CEO of MyPillow is looking to replace Walz.

I’m running for Governor to restore truth, transparency, and leadership to our great state on Minnesota.

AP reported more on Lindell’s run for Governor:

Mike Lindell, the fervent supporter of President Donald Trump known to TV viewers as the “MyPillow Guy,” officially entered the race for Minnesota governor Thursday in hopes of winning the Republican nomination to challenge Democratic Gov. Tim Walz in 2026.

Lindell made the announcement at a news conference at his MyPillow factory in the Minneapolis suburb of Shakopee that he streamed live on his Lindell TV conservative news platform. He said his political opponents had tried to shut him and his company down because of his support for Trump’s claim that the 2020 election was stolen from him.

“Well, it didn’t work. I’m still standing. MyPillow is still standing,” Lindell said. “And now I want you to know that I will stand for you as governor of the state of Minnesota.”

Machinery banged and hissed loudly in the background as workers packaged MyPillows. He went straight from his announcement into a live interview with another Trump ally, conservative strategist Steve Bannon, on his “War Room” podcast.
