Ex-NBC Anchor Chuck Todd Lambasted For Blaming President Trump: ‘I Don’t Feel Safe’

Losing his gig as the moderator of “Meet the Press” severely (and thankfully) limited Chuck Todd’s exposure.

But he’s got access to podcasts and he’s not afraid to use it to trash President Donald Trump.

Most recently, he added his two cents to the conversation surrounding Saturday’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting.

And as Fox News reported, his hot take on the matter was widely panned:

“I’m not going to any more events where Trump’s at. I don’t feel safe…. If you decide to go into his orbit, you have become less safe,” Todd said during a podcast conversation with former CNN pundit Chris Cillizza.

Todd went on to suggest that Trump is “always going to protect himself first” and is more likely to throw allies “under the bus” than protect them. He was quickly roasted on social media for his remarks and CBS News correspondent Jan Crawford was among the most outspoken critics.

“This is not only wrong but stupid,” Crawford responded.

“I was literally talking about this with one of my daughters this morning. She pointed out how anyone can walk into a wedding or concert or mall and start shooting. We actually were in a safe space at WHCD,” she continued. “We were in a completely secure ballroom protected by layers of Secret Service. Most people don’t get that protection from mentally disturbed assailants.”

Plenty of other high-profile pundits expressed disdain for Todd’s tirade:

Here’s what RealClearPolitics added from Todd’s remarks:

“I keep thinking about when somebody using Donald Trump’s words and actions targeted me and a bunch of other members of the press, you know who I didn’t hear from? Donald Trump.”

“The guy doesn’t care when people commit violence in his name, he only cares when violence is committed against him, and he doesn’t see that he is a contributor to the atmosphere,” he said.
