A fast-moving wildfire is causing damage and prompting evacuation orders in southern California.

The ‘Sandy Fire’ has been feeding off of high winds — swallowing hundreds of acres in a matter of hours.

Some of the footage coming out of the evacuation zones show the hills surrounding residential areas completely charred with flames roaring.

It is currently rated as being 0% contained.

Check out this report from Fox News from just a short time ago showing footage of the fire as it threatens to swallow entire neighborhoods.

Be advised — the Fox News anchor in this clip mistakenly puts the damage only at ’10 acres’, which is completely inaccurate:

NEW: Evacuation orders have just been issued for another wildfire in California

The fast-moving brush fire is now burning near homes in Simi Valley. The Sandy Fire has already burned 184 acres

This particular wildfire erupted in Ventura County, California.

As a quick side note — if you’re like me, you’re wondering if we’re about to see a repeat of the infamous Palisades fire of early 2025.

Hopefully not — and Spencer Pratt (registered Republican) who watched his own home burn in those fires…

And who is currently running to be the next mayor of Los Angeles to replace Democrat Karen Bass… shared what is hopefully good news about the conditions where the Sandy Fire is burning.

As opposed to the Palisades Fire that took Pratt’s home and so many others, Ventura County appears to have actual fuel breaks surrounding residential areas:

Man, if only we had this around the Palisades. Perfect demonstration of how fuel breaks save lives. Keep in mind, the winds over the #SandyFire here are stronger than they were on the IA of the Palisades Fire, and yet… pic.twitter.com/l8vBKQxCuE

The effectiveness of fuel breaks should be obvious from that video alone — considering (as Pratt points out in his post) that the winds driving this fire are STRONGER than they were in the Palisades Fire of 2025!

Take a note, Karen Bass and Gavin Newsom!

Here’s another crazy reel of footage put out on X showing how close this fire is burning to residential areas, and why the evacuation orders are going out.

This was shared by Bloomberg about an hour ago:

As I mentioned earlier, that ’10 acre’ quip by the Fox News host in the clip I shared was way off.

As of right now, it has devoured over 700 acres and is ‘spreading dangerously fast’ according to Cal Fire as is being reported by CBS News:

A brush fire dubbed the Sandy Fire, which is burning in Simi Valley, has prompted mandatory evacuations on Monday morning.

The fire has grown to more than 700 acres with no containment and is burning in the area near Sandy Avenue, according to the Ventura County Fire Department.

The Simi Valley Police Department says around 10:17 a.m., they received a report that an individual “hit a rock with a tractor” near the 2600 block of Rudolph Drive, which sparked the fire.

Aerial footage of the fire showed clouds of thick smoke, several water-dropping helicopters and residents evacuating their homes.

Andrew Dowd, the Public Information Officer for the Ventura County Fire Department, said they are in an aggressive firefight and are receiving additional ground and air resources from other agencies across Southern California.

“The fire is spreading dangerously fast and threatens structures as well as infrastructure. Multiple air and ground resources are en route and on order,” Cal Fire said.
I should note that the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library is very close to this particular fire.

They have closed and evacuated along with many others because of their proximity to this dangerous fire:

Large portions of the Simi Valley area in Ventura County have been ordered to evacuate.

And previous evacuation orders from this morning have now been expanded to include the Thousand Oaks area, as reported by the local news station, KTLA 5 News out of Los Angeles:

Evacuations have been ordered due to a fast-moving, wind-driven brush fire that burned several structures and threatened hundreds of homes in southern Simi Valley Monday morning.

At least 200 firefighters are on the scene, including from Ventura County, L.A. County and CAL FIRE. They’re actively engaged in structure defense efforts, including dropping water and coordinating with ground resources to try to bring control lines in and around the fire before it spreads into the thicker vegetation in the Simi Hills.

Sky5 has been over the scene since 11 a.m., where the fire could be seen spreading quickly, burning several structures and sending a large plume of grey smoke into the air.

Evacuation orders have been issued for parts of Simi Valley, and warnings were extended into the Thousand Oaks area.

Evacuation Orders:
Simi Valley 32, Simi Valley 33, Simi Valley 34, Simi Valley 35

Evacuation Warning:
Simi Valley 31, TOAKS 6, TOAKS 7

The weather is a big factor in this fire, with a Wind Advisory in effect for the Santa Susana Mountains, bordering Simi Valley, and other parts of Ventura County until 3 p.m.

KTLA meteorologist Olga Ospina said the Santa Ana winds have died down a bit since the fire first broke out.
Here’s a screen capture of the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office digital ‘Dashboard’ which is being used to help put out current info on the fire and evacuation orders:

Hopefully the fuel breaks put in by Ventura Country officials will prove their worth, as compared to the Palisades Fire.

And with any luck the KTLA meteorologist quoted in that previous story will prove worth their salt — and the Santa Ana winds that have fueled the fire to this point will indeed die down.

This is a developing story, and as always — we’ll keep you updated with any new developments as they happen.
