A Democrat Senator was hospitalized after feeling unwell while working at the Capitol.

Senator Tina Smith of Minnesota was hospitalized after suddenly falling sick at the Capitol.

Smith was first rushed to see the Capitol’s doctor but was later taken to the hospital.

Fox News shared more details on Sen. Smith falling ill:

Democratic Sen. Tina Smith of Minnesota washospitalized Wednesday after she began feeling unwell while working at the Capitol, according to a statement from her staff.x”While at work at the Capitol today, Sen. Smith started to not feel well,” read a post on X.

“She went to the Capitol physician who recommended she undergo more thorough examination at GW hospital.”Doctors have opted to keep her overnight “out of an abundance of caution,” her office said.

“She expects to be back at work very soon,” the statement reads.Smith, 67, has served in the Senate since 2018.

USA Today reported that her sickness comes as the Senate is about to vote on spending cuts:

Sen. Tina Smith, D-Minnesota, was hospitalized July 16, her office said in a statement, amid an ongoing debate and anticipated vote in the Senate on President Donald Trump’s $9 billion spending cuts.

“While at work at the Capitol today, Sen. Smith started to not feel well,” her staff said. “She went to the Capitol physician who recommended she undergo more thorough examination at GW hospital.””Out of an abundance of caution, they are keeping her overnight for observation.

She expects to be back at work very soon.”The Minnesota Democrat’s absence likely means one less no vote on a package slashing funds for foreign aid and public broadcasting, currently under consideration in the upper chamber.

Her staffers are still posting on X, despite her being hospitalized.
