Senator John Cornyn wasn’t too happy with a few of the questions he endured this morning about his loyalty to President Trump.
He was so upset, in fact, that he outright accused the reporter who dared to ask those questions of being on Ken Paxton’s payroll!
The interaction happened as Cornyn walked through the halls of the Capitol, a gaggle of reporters in tow.
One of the reporters broached an apparent touchy subject with the Senator, who first attempted to derisively laugh off the question.
Cornyn initially tried — and failed — to delegitimize Alison Steinberg’s pointed questions about his lackluster support for the President’s agenda.
He bristled even before she was able to get the full question out.
Then scoffed at the idea that a legitimate number of Americans might be concerned about his track record of betrayal against President Trump.
Steinberg, a DC correspondent for Lindell TV, didn’t back down.
Cornyn looked like he was frantic to find an off ramp along the corridor as she pressed him on several of his positions taken against President Trump’s agenda.
Here’s a clip of the conversation shared by Nick Sortor via X:
Here’s a full screen version of that clip for convenience:HOLY CRAP! John Cornyn just started SPIRALING when a reporter asked him why he deserves Trump’s endorsement![]()

I’m going to give her a 10 out of 10 for keeping her cool!
Here’s the full text from Sortor’s post, including some of the back-and-forth between Cornyn and Steinberg in case you didn’t catch it all:
Judging by his reaction, Cornyn seems to find it ridiculous that Americans are concerned by his iffy support for President Trump.HOLY CRAP! John Cornyn just started SPIRALING when a reporter asked him why he deserves Trump’s endorsement
REPORTER: Why should President Trump endorse YOU when many say you’ve been VEHEMENTLY against his agenda? Borderline pro-amnesty, red flag laws…
CORNYN: Do you speak for all these Americans?! I don’t understand! Are you being paid by the Paxton campaign?!
REPORTER: No, I’m just a concerned American citizen representing millions of Americans.
CORNYN: No, I think you’re a PAID INFLUENCER! Because NONE of that’s true and you know it!
Cornyn KNOWS the American people see right through his BS
But one of those individuals happens to be the guy who came in third place in the recent Texas primary.
Republican Wesley Hunt’s appearance on the ticket was a point of contention among Texas conservatives and MAGA in it’s own right.
He essentially split the vote, ensuring a run-off vote would be needed to determine if Ken Paxton does — or does not — get to unseat Cornyn.
But even Hunt has come out against Cornyn since the vote, arguing that he is one of the most liberal politicians of them all!
Check out this statement of condemnation from Hunt, hurled in Cornyn’s direction, as it appeared today on Hunt’s campaign website:
Those same issues listed on Wesley Hunt’s website were enough to stop Cornyn in his tracks when Alison Steinberg had the guts to ask him to his face, with the cameras rolling.John Cornyn is tied, according to the Institute of Legislative Analysis, for being the most liberal Texas Republican in all of Congress.
For months, John Cornyn and his senior campaign staff have been boasting that Cornyn votes with President Trump “99% of the time.” That’s simply not true. In reality, John Cornyn has opposed President Trump’s agenda in nearly one-third of his votes.
Cornyn has repeatedly compromised with Democrats—pushing gun control legislation, supporting mass amnesty, and sending billions of taxpayer dollars to Ukraine. Now that he’s facing primary challengers, he suddenly claims to be “MAGA.” (Emphasis added.)
No one can dismiss the fact that Cornyn is trying with all his might to APPEAR full-fledged MAGA, pro-Trump, and conservative through-and-through.
But looking the part and being the part are two different things.
And that’s the argument rising to the surface today in the wake of Cornyn’s reprehensible accusations against a reporter simply doing her job.
Particularly in Texas, key conservative Republicans are sounding the alarm against a potential endorsement for Cornyn from President Trump, as reported by the Associated Press:
Conservatives are also pointing to the whole-hearted support Cornyn is getting from ANOTHER Senate Republican — whose allegiance to President Trump’s agenda is in question. In interviews with The Associated Press, several said it would be a mistake for Trump to endorse four-term incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, a favorite of the Washington establishment, over conservative crusader Ken Paxton, the state attorney general.
“Some of his hardest and most ardent supporters will see this as a slap in the face,” said Tom Oliverson, a Houston-area lawmaker who leads the Republican caucus in the Texas House.
Steve Toth, a Republican state lawmaker from The Woodlands who recently defeated incumbent Rep. Dan Crenshaw, said “what the president doesn’t understand here in Texas is the amount of frustration that Texas voters have with John Cornyn.”
Since Trump remains widely popular in the state, “I don’t think it’s a mistake that’s going to hurt him,” Toth said. “But do I think it’s a mistake for him to possibly endorse John Cornyn? Yes, I do.”
Cornyn and Paxton are facing off in a May 26 runoff after neither won a majority in the March 3 primary to clinch the nomination outright. Trump said March 4 that he would endorse one of them, and subsequently hinted in an interview with Politico that he was leaning toward Cornyn.
But no endorsement has been announced, leaving both candidates jockeying for the upper hand in a race that could become increasingly ugly and expensive in the weeks to come.
Cornyn tried to further align himself with Trump on Wednesday by reversing his position on the Senate filibuster. The senator said he would support changing the rules to pass the SAVE America Act, which the president has described as his top priority. The legislation would require voters to prove their citizenship when registering.
And that would be Senate Majority Leader John Thune.
Check out Sen. Thune’s response when asked on Fox News about his take on who President Trump should endorse; Cornyn, or Paxton:
As the saying goes, “birds of a feather will flock together”.BETRAYAL: Leader Thune just said he would rather have Cornyn over Paxton as a Texas Senator, PROVING the true intentions of Thune.

Is it just me — or does Thune’s endorsement of Cornyn sound familiar?
Oh, that’s right…
It sounds almost EXACTLY like Cornyn’s own push AGAINST PRESIDENT TRUMP!
Check out this montage of Cornyn shared on X, saying almost exactly the same thing you just heard Thune say about Paxton…
Essentially saying that DESPITE overwhelming support by voters, somehow, President Trump wasn’t electable in 2024!
Isn’t that EXACTLY what Sen. Thune just said about Paxton, DESPITE an overwhelming and growing groundswell of support from voters?
You be the judge. Here’s that clip:
That video was originally shared by this popular account on X, in the hopes that President Trump would be reminded just how disloyal John Cornyn has been:BOOM![]()
If you support Ken Paxton, I’m gonna need your help in getting this video to @realDonaldTrump

And this may be a bit of a tangent, but I am constantly reminded (thanks to the memory of the internet) exactly what the late great Charlie Kirk thought on so many issues.BOOM![]()

And in researching for this story, I stumbled on EXACTLY what he thought of John Cornyn.
Check out this clip in which Kirk truly said what he really thought of John Cornyn — and also of Paxton’s attempt to dethrone him:
Strong words, from a strong man.Somehow John Cornyn is narrowly leading Ken Paxton in the GOP Senate Race in Texas
Texas needs to vote for Ken Paxton for America First

He was incredibly excited when Ken Paxton made it “official” by setting out to knock John Cornyn out of the Senate:
Kirk also reminded everyone a few days after President Trump’s victory in November of 2024 — and Kari Lake’s alleged loss — how a certain few played into that outcome.BREAKING: It's official.![]()

— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) April 8, 2025
As he pointed out in this post from Nov. 8 of 2024, Cornyn was instrumental in keeping the campaign piggy bank closed for Kari Lake:
At the end of the day (or at the end of that hallway…) Cornyn didn’t suddenly come clean.Just a reminder the Senate Leadership Fund run by McConnell, Thune, and Cornyn didn’t spend a CENT helping Kari Lake
She might win anyway.
— Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) November 9, 2024
He didn’t admit his culpability in positioning himself AGAINST President Trump and his agenda.
But he did squirm, and he was forced to endure hearing the legitimate questions of many voters hang in the air as he quickly tried to outpace the reporter asking the questions.
Short of a defeat in May at the hands of Ken Paxton, that may be the most we can expect as compensation for John Cornyn’s useless Senate career.
For now, I’ll take it.
But in May, as a voter in Texas… I’m going to want a little more payback; a larger return on my voting investment.
