BIZARRE: Somali-Run Daycare In Minnesota Claim Documents Were Stolen In Mysterious Break-In

This looks extremely fishy considering the timing.

Just days after independent journalist Nick Shirley reported that dozens of Somali-run daycare centers were allegedly nonoperational despite receiving millions in state funding, one daycare center has claimed it was broken into and that all of its documents were stolen.

A manager at Nakomis Day Care Center has reported that documents, including children’s enrollment records and checkbooks, were stolen from their daycare center.

Interestingly, the documents that were stolen contain the exact information needed to prove that their daycare facility isn’t fraudulently receiving state funding.

The New York Post had these details to share on the “break-in”:

A Somali-run day care in Minneapolis is claiming somebody broke in and stole “important documents,” but cops say the facility didn’t report anything was actually taken.

The alleged burglary comes as the national spotlight shines on the unfolding multibillion-dollar fraud scandal involving Minnesota human services, with particular scrutiny on day care facilities run by Somali immigrants after dozens of people from the community have been busted for pilfering state funds.

Nasrulah Mohamed, manager of Nakomis Day Care Center, told reporters that a suspect entered through the kitchen at the rear of the facility, damaging a wall and breaking into the building’s office, sometime on Tuesday.

He said the alleged prowler stole “important documentation” including children’s enrollment information, employee documentation and checkbooks.

However “no loss was reported to officers,” according to a preliminary report by the Minneapolis Police Department.

MPD noted that the center later reached out with additional information, but the updated police report was not immediately available.

The Minnesota Star Tribune noted Nokomis Daycare was not featured in Nick Shirley’s viral video:

A burglar broke into a Somali-run day care in south Minneapolis this week, leaving a trail of damage and debris and stealing sensitive employee and client documents.
A cleaner discovered the wreckage at Nokomis Daycare Center Inc. around 6 a.m. Dec. 30 before the facility opened, and quickly alerted management.

The break-in comes several days after a YouTube video by right-wing influencer Nick Shirley went viral; the video alleged that a group of day care centers operated by Somalis in Minneapolis has misappropriated “upwards of $100 million.”

Nokomis Daycare was not among the 10 centers featured in Shirley’s video.

The state Department of Human Services website says the facility is operating in good standing and is licensed to care for up to 71 children.

Nasrulah Mohamed, the business’ 20-year-old manager, said the breach has led to “immense fear” in the community, at a time in which the Somali diaspora is already under threat.

“We’re honest; We don’t do any fraud or nothing,” Mohamed told the Minnesota Star Tribune. “All this happened today — not because of the truth or the facts, but all because of fear and lies.”

Mohamed arrived at the business, located in a nondescript strip mall off Bloomington Avenue, to find a gaping hole in a back wall. The thief had seemingly used tools to break apart several cinderblocks, tear out insulation and crawl inside.
