Bernie Sanders Celebrates Private Jet Use For ‘Fighting Oligarchy’ Tour: ‘No Apologies For That’

To his credit, far-left U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) agreed to appear on Fox News recently, where he likely anticipated some tougher questions than he’s used to from the mainstream media.

Host Bret Baier didn’t disappoint, moving the discussion to the exorbitant campaign-funded expense of the nationwide “Fighting Oligarchy” tour he has been on recently alongside Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

The Daily Wire provided a relevant excerpt from the segment:

“You know, Elissa Slotkin, senator from Michigan, she said you shouldn’t be using ‘oligarch,’ it’s over people’s head. You’ve gotten criticized from other people,” Baier said. “Free Beacon says Bernie Sanders spent $221,000 on private jets [amid the] ‘Fighting Oligarchy” Tour, paid for by Friends of Bernie Sanders. That you’ve spent millions of dollars in campaign funds on private jet travel over the years. How do you push back on both of those things?”

Sanders’ initial inclination was to take a swipe at President Donald Trump.

“When’s the last time you saw Donald Trump during a campaign mode at National Airport?” Sanders asked.

“No, no, no. It doesn’t. But he’s also not fighting the oligarchy,” Baier replied.

“No. You run a campaign and you do three or four or five rallies in a week. The only way you can get around to talk to 30,000 people,” Sanders said. “Think I’m going to be sitting on a waiting line at United, waiting, you know, while 30,000 people are waiting? That’s the only way you can get around. No apologies for that.”

The leftist rallies have attracted some not-so-positive attention on social media in recent weeks:

If it’s somehow MANDATORY for you to be flying around on private jets…

…because you’re TOO GOOD to wait in line at the airport like the rest of us peasants…

…kindly LOSE US on the "fighting oligarchy" and climate change bullsh*t.

The Daily Caller also reported on Sanders’ attempt to defend his travel habits:

Sanders said Democrats must prioritize working-class concerns, but he spends thousands on campaign luxuries like private jets. Despite calling for a populist agenda, Sanders admits his party has long failed to deliver for the working class.

Sanders is touring the country to address crowds about limiting the control of wealthy elites and powerful corporations in the U.S. The Democratic National Committee, Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, and the Association of State Democratic Committees launched a nationwide effort called “People’s Town Halls,” aiming to host events in all 50 states, including Republican-held districts, that started in March.
