World War II veteran George Boone requested to visit his wife's grave while on an Honor Flight from North Carolina.
An anonymous employee at the Arlington National Cemetery offered to help carry a World War II veteran to his wife’s grave on Saturday, Fox5 reported.
World War II veteran George Boone, 96, visited Arlington National Cemetery while on an Honor Flight from North Carolina to visit the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
During his trip, Boone asked to visit the gravesite of his wife, Alma, who died in 2007.
However, while on his way to her grave, Boone’s wheelchair was left behind.
“I just sort of gave up on the whole thing and thought I would have to visit her from that distance,” Boone told Fox5.
An anonymous employee offered to carry Boone on their back so that he could visit his wife’s gravesite.
"I thought – carry me at my age, size and weight,” he told Fox5.
“He was such a caring young fellow, I felt like a toy in his arms,” he added.
George Boone’s son, Jon, caught the moment on camera.
During World War II, Boone served as a B-24 pilot. In 1943, he became a prisoner of war after his plane was shot down over Romania.
