The United State Air Force found themselves facing intense backlash on Thursday when they decided to post a tweet showing support for the Transgender Day of Visibility. Although companies like Disney have voiced their opinion in the political arena, the armed forces have remained silent, only focusing on protecting the country. But now, thanks to a tweet, the Air Force mistakenly took a political stance.
The tweet that started it all read, “Today is #TransDayofVisiblity–Check out @UnderSecAF Jones talk with Lt. Col. Bree Fram, highest-ranking openly transgender @DeptofDefense officer, about her role as the Deputy Chief of Acquisitions Policies and Process Division for the @SpaceForceDoD.” The tweet was also accompanied by a video that can be watched below.
Other comments ranged from, “The enemies of America are laughing at us”, “We are going to lose a major war”, to “When do we need to learn Chinese?”
On person commented, “I’m just going to state the obvious here. It defies common sense for the USAF to promote such utter nonsense,”
Not all comments opposed the move as LIT Transgender Policies co-lead Master Sgt. Jamie Hash stated, “Today is a day to step back and reflect on the obstacles the trans community has overcome, recognize the work left to do, while celebrating all transgender and non-binary DAF personnel who are serving and thriving as their authentic selves”.
Not a day after the tweet, the Biden administration released a statement, saying, “Transgender people are some of the bravest people in our nation. But nobody should have to be brave just to be themselves. Today, the Biden Administration announced new actions to support the mental health of transgender children, remove barriers that transgender people face accessing critical government services, and improve the visibility of transgender people in our nation’s data.”
It should also be noted that on March 31, 2022, Joe Biden became the first President to commemorate Transgender Day of Visibility.

With the United States currently facing Russia invading Ukraine, the possibility of Word World 3, and nuclear fallout, many were wondering how the Air Forces’ tweet was relevant. Jessica O’Donnell asked, “How does this help us with war and stuff?”Today is #TransDayofVisiblity–Check out @UnderSecAF Jones talk with Lt. Col.
