A reporter and cameraman were filming atop a bridge when they were almost blown to smithereens this morning.

The action was caught on tape during a live stream, including a frame in which you can clearly see the munition, just split seconds before impact.

Just imagine — you’re out filming a live stream for your peeps on the socials.

And out of nowhere a bomb comes whistling through the sky, and nearly takes your head off!

It might be worth mentioning this particular bridge is in southern Lebanon spanning the Litani River just a hop, skip, and a jump from a military base targeted by Israel in ongoing airstrikes against Hezbollah.

And now, accusations are flying in both directions — along with the literal munitions.

Before we get into all the political fallout from the event, just watch this crazy footage!

Seriously, imagine you’re standing on a bridge in a known warzone, and you hear the high-pitched whistle like something out of the movies!

And… cut to scene:

That was the raw footage captured by Steve Sweeney’s camera man this morning as the duo reported for the Russian-funded media organization, RT.

I’m guessing the same sketchy political questions probably just went off in your head like cartoon lightbulbs as soon as you read my last sentence, just as they did in mine.

Oh, yes — a Russian funded RT reporter with a very vocal anti-Israel leaning gets nearly un-alived by a highly accurate guided munition standing on a bridge which has already (obviously…) been targeted in military strikes by the IDF?

Conjure up if you will, in your mind, the voice of Chandler from ‘Friends’ as you read my next line:

Could this BE any more messy???

Technically, it could have been, give or take just a few feet. But, I digress…

Sweeney says he was targeted intentionally.

The IDF says that’s BS — specific warnings were issued about that particular bridge in advance of the strike, according to coverage of the situation from the New York Post:

A journalist and his crew were nearly killed on Thursday when a missile exploded just feet away from them as they reported in war-torn Lebanon, harrowing video shows.

Steve Sweeney and cameraman Ali Rida, who both work for Russian RT outlet, were reporting about the latest Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon when they suddenly noticed the missile heading right for them.

The bomb exploded just behind Sweeney in a powerful blast that sent him and Rida flying back as smoke and debris covered the ground.

“F—king hell,” Sweeney, a Beirut-based reporter, could be heard saying in the aftermath. “F—k.”

The Israel Defense Forces said it had issued a warning for civilians to stay away from the crossing as part of its bombardment campaign on Thursday.

“The IDF does not target civilians or journalists and operates in accordance with international law,” the Israeli military added.
As I said, Sweeney has come out claiming that the IDF was intentionally trying to kill him.

He posted a video just a few hours after the incident, describing his wounds and sporting bandages from shrapnel.

He also dismissed any notion that a warning had been issued in his post on X:

Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba

I have absolutely no doubt that this was… pic.twitter.com/5igboFLvH8

Here’s the full text from his post along with a full screen version of that clip down below, for convenience:

Today I$rael tried to kill me in a targeted airstrike in southern Lebanon as I was reporting on was the targeting of bridges and the forced displacement of 1 million people, an ethnic cleansing operation on a larger scale than the Nakba

I have absolutely no doubt that this was deliberate. Despite claims there were no warnings ahead of the strike and no notifications sent to the Lebanese Army who allowed us to film

As we have seen in Gaza they want to silence journalists who document and report their war crimes

It is the western powers who provide political and military support for I$rael, arming it to the teeth to carry out genocide in Gaza and ethnic cleansing here in Lebanon. They are not simply complicit, but active participants and should be held accountable for their actions.

But if I$rael thinks today’s strike will silence us and keep us out of the field they are very, very mistaken
And here’s the full screen version of his follow-up report:

Nearly 30 minutes before the footage came out, the Editor-in-Chief of RT came out claiming basically the same thing as Sweeney.

In her X post, Margarita Simonyan mistakenly reported that Sweeney had been been targeted while in his vehicle.

Chalk that up to the fog of war.

But she shared the same view as Sweeney, that the two had been intentionally targeted:

Our correspondent Steve Sweeney has been wounded by an Israeli strike in Lebanon.

He says an IDF plane fired upon the car carrying Steve and his cameraman, as they were crossing a bridge in the south of the country.

Here’s the full text from her initial announcement following the incident:

Our correspondent Steve Sweeney has been wounded by an Israeli strike in Lebanon.

He says an IDF plane fired upon the car carrying Steve and his cameraman, as they were crossing a bridge in the south of the country.

Both men are conscious in hospital, doctors are diagnosing extent of shrapnel damage.

War journalists are not legitimate targets.

We pray for them.
On the other side of the coin…

Sweeney is being labeled as nothing but a propogandist for both his work with Russian-funded RT, and his presence on the bridge in question.

That bridge, according to Israeli media, has been consistently targeted because of it’s use by Hezbollah, according to this report on the event from Newsweek:

The video appears to show the munition landing just meters behind Sweeney as he dives for cover.

After the munition exploded, the camera was left upturned pointing at the sky, and a male voice could be heard shouting expletives in shock.

Both men remained conscious after the strike, according to reports, and they were taken to a nearby hospital, where they are receiving treatment.

Israel National News cited the IDF as saying that it had targeted Litani River crossings, which Hezbollah “used for both terrorist movement and to transfer thousands of weapons, including rockets and rocket launchers intended to be used against IDF troops and Israeli civilians in terrorist attacks.”

The IDF said that before the strikes, it issued warnings to stay away from the crossings.

“In footage released in the past few hours, a journalist is seen at the Qasmiya crossing. An explicit warning had been issued regarding this area,” the IDF said, according to the outlet. “The crossing was struck after sufficient time had passed since warnings. The crossing was again targeted today (Thursday) at 12:30.”

The clip has been widely shared on social media—with users describing Sweeney as a “propagandist” in connection with his work for RT, a Russian state-funded channel. (Emphasis added.)
Did Israel target an anti-Israel RT reporter and cameraman reporting from an area of Lebanon dripping with Hezbollah activity?

I don’t have a clue. It’s a wild, crazy world.

But I did give the IDF claim that they issued an advanced warning, specifically about that bridge crossing, the sniff test.

And here’s what I found:

— افيخاي ادرعي (@AvichayAdraee) March 18, 2026
That post was dated 5:39 AM Wednesday morning, a full day before Sweeney’s near death experience.

That announcement was made by Col. Avichay Adraee, and IDF spokesman, in Arabic.

Here’s the full text of that warning, in English:

#URGENT
‼
Urgent Warning to Residents of Southern Lebanon
Due to Hezbollah activities and the transfer of terrorist elements to southern Lebanon with the support of the civilian population, the Defense Army is compelled to carry out extensive and precise targeting of Hezbollah’s terrorist activities.

Accordingly, and to prevent the transfer of reinforcements and combat means, the Defense Army intends to attack crossings on the Litani River starting from midday hours today.

For your safety, you must continue moving to the area north of the Zahrani River and refrain from any movement southward that may put your lives at risk. (Emphasis added.)
Fact Check: Did Israel give advanced warning that the bridges in that area spanning the Litani River would be a bad place to hang out?

The internet has determined that statement to be… TRUE.

Does that mean Israel didn’t target an avowed anti-Israel RT-employed reporter hanging out in Hezbollah-controlled territory???

The answer to that question is well above my paygrade.

NOTE TO SELF: Don’t hang out on strategic bridges in warzones.

And at the very least, pay attention to official warnings from the groups dropping the bombs… if you do.
